Well the 40 is finally out of the carport.....I have driven it around the block 1/2 dozen times and it seems to run fairly good. Gotta do a little fine tuning on the timing and put the muffler back on and finish welding the spring perches and it'll be sqaured away. Thanks to all of you who have been out to my house over the years and helped me get my 40 to where it is today. With out your help and my wifes foot up my ass it would still be sittin in the carport. Not really but I couldn't of done it with out you guys. Greg is comin over on sunday to help me with the wiring to get the lights running, so if anyone else wants to do a little wrenching come on over, we'll be startin about 10 in the morning. Thanks again guys!

Chuck

Yeah I think I owe JP and Marshall a Keg or two!!

Chuck what you need to do is drive it down here to the house. That and back ought to give you a good idea if it's going to be a problem. Also maybe we could work on some of the other issues.

What he needs to do is seriously weld the spring perches before he drives it anywhere. Otherwise hes gonna end up cracking those little tacks I put on it and his axle will shift like mine did.
Congrats again Chuck.

Yeah I need to somehow get a welder with a 110 to finish welding up the perches. Hey Steve what ya got goin on tomorrow.....Greg is comin over to help me with the wiring at 10...Marshall if you wanna join in on the fun come on over. Steve if you can make it can we borrow your welder to finish up the perches? We'll make it happen....thanks

Don't you need a 220 for that? I have to meet the in-laws in Greenville tomorrow and am out of town for the next two weekends. If a 110 would work could you 40 make it to my house one evening during the week? Better yet if your 40 could make it to my house I would suggest going to Marshall's and using his 220...let me know - I'll help how I can.

ETA: PS - PM me your phone #. I'll give you a call in the afternoon if I can make it over.

I'm sure I could drive it....but I'd be afraid that the tack welds would break by the time I got there and that would be bad. I may swing by your house one night and borrow your welder. A 220 would be best but they don't make a long enough 220 extension cord. The 110 will do the job....JP welded his 40 up and rolled it on the stinger and it held true.

well as long as he doesn't do the welding he should be fine :grinpimp:

But we are talking about Chuck. You may want to rethink your wisdom.

The 110 will be just fine and I know its Chuck thats why I'd hate to see him die because he was doing 60 riding someones ass as always had to slam his breaks snapped the tack welds his axle rotated and his cruiser flipped off the road exploding in a ball of fire and incinerating him. Even though that does seem like an appropriate way for Chuck to die based on my experiences with him I think it would be nice if it wasnt the first time he took the 40 on trip further than around the block.

PS if you can get a welder tomorrow let me know I should have the time to drop by and finish what I started with those welds.

Hey Richard....thanks for predicting my future....I saw enough sparks when JP's wheel bounced over my 60 goin 55 mph into clemson. Steve may drop by tomorrow with the welder...if he can't make it I'm gonna stop by and pick it up one day this week and I'll give ya a shout and we can get those welded up. Thanks for the help Richard

Chuck

I've got some .030 (or is it .035) that I'll make sure to give you when you stop by for the welder. I sent you a PM - I have to be in Greenville for something at 10 and 3 tomorrow.

Thanks a ton to Greg...we got the lights up and running...the brake lights rewired...and the tail lights working. So now I can at least make it to tellico in the dark...hope that's not the case but ya never know. But it couldn't of been done with out Greg's expertise.

Thanks, Chuck

how long of an extension cord do you need for the 220v? i made a 50ft (for me)and a 25ft one (for my bro-in-law), should run about a dollar a foot plus ~20 bucks in plugs.

it was great seein you again last weekend chuck and glad that you've got her running again (i can't wait til mine is back on the trail...anybody want to start a pool on what decade i finish it?).

have a good one and congrats again,
malphrus
