Saw it this morning at a dealership right by my house.

1995, 177k and they want $9,995. Seems several grand over priced.

I paid less than that for mine, 56k miles, white LX450 no tears in the seat, but no lockers either. Mine has a big giant dent in the lower tailgate, plus smelled like wet dog when I got it. No service records. But no oil leaks either, and oil was relatively clean looking.

Can't see the dash on this car (mirror switch area) to see whether the locker knob is there or not.

I spent only $300 in pm's to baseline mine. Belts, all fluids, etc. Plus a bunch of time and $$ to detail the interior to get rid of the smell.

You can always offer less and see if they'll counter offer on it :D

$6000.00 should be the top price paid for this vehicle. Good luck.

This would be way overpriced in other parts of the country, but not the PNW. My truck (similar miles and year), comped at $12.5k.

The price seems a bit high, but depends on condition. If it's uber clean, ok dealer price. If it needs work, then offer less.

For that truck yes! It is crazy the price they fetch up here in the PNW as stated before, I literally looked for almost 3 years for mine, now searching for one for a friend- I've about convinced we need to fly/buy outta the PNW

$10k for a seat repaired with duct tape? I am sure their price is based on all the wonderful add-ons like the damage multipliers. Lemme guess it is at a used car strip dealer, not Toyota :meh: I would look elsewhere.

The advantage of the PNW is that they are crazy clean compared to other vehicles. I've seen too many trucks in other parts of the country that are spotted with rust all over and it's considered "good condition." Most 80's that live their life in the PNW (or Cali) don't have a spot of rust on them.

There's something nice about being able to crawl under there and spin off bolts without worrying about where your left handed drill bits and easy outs are.

But yeah, that seat alone is trashed. Far too few pictures and information to give a decent evaluation, but the seat isn't a good sign.

Maybe if the dealer pays for new leather?

Cost of fj80

In 2002 I bought my 1996 for $18,850 with 63,000 on it at Scottsdale Toyota. The sticker on the window had a price of $27,500. Rember that dealers try to anchor you. If you get it for $8500 did you get a great deal? Not if it only books at $6000. Do your homework, determine the kelly and nada value and average them based on the condition of the truck. Go in prepared with your own money or financing.

These rigs are not invincable. I did my head gasket at 130k and lost it again at 182k. I chose to rebuild it while they were in there last winter. The shortblock from toyota, parts, labor etc was $7800. They are solid rigs, but i also have a 1972 Gmc pickup that i restrored completely including crate motor, for about the same price of the engine alone on the 80. Good luck on your hunt.

Bargain it down to 6K or be patient and keep looking. :grinpimp:

KBB, NADA, and Edmund's all undervalue Toyota (and some of the other popular foreign cars) quite badly in the PNW, especially once they're older.

KBB, for example, says my truck should sell from a dealer for $8,800. A year ago, when I was hit and run, Progressive tried to tell me my truck was only worth about $6,500 which would have totaled it. They didn't use NADA but it was a very similar valuation (I was told within a few hundred dollars), and NADA was even less than KBB. I made them compare prices, and they came back with a valuation of $12,500.

It was very much in their interest to use the blue book price as it would have saved them thousands of dollars.

I wouldn't pay $12,500 for my truck, but for the right 80, $10k really isn't that bad.

Looks like they are dreaming to me. Most people, even LC owners, don't really know what this vehicle is. They just see a fancy SUV. To the uninformed, those brush guards and roof rack are advantages. To me, all that stuff is just a burden and has to be removed and hopefully sold to someone else. You probably could get it for closer to 1/2 that from them eventually, but you might not want to bother with the haggling. If they're waiting for someone who is going to walk on the lot and be mesmerized by a "high end SUV" for $10k, you're going to just be frustrated and frustrate them.

This is all depending on what your plans are, of course. I say buy one off 'Mud with mods and base-lining done. The price of travel/shipping from nearly anywhere in the U.S. seems to make this one a bad deal. Yes, there are areas of the U.S. where rust and corrosion are prevalent, but you can do a nationwide search and get better options than this for $10k, I 'd bet, and that's including the price of travel/shipping.

Again, it depends on your situation and your plans and your abilities to some degree.

Other than the luggage cage and bull bar, I'd say $4500. Make it a smooth $5500 for the goodies and the dealership's cut.

but not the PNW.....

Well, I see when I get ready to sell my 80 I will market my it only to the Pacific Northwest People. LOL:lol:

Buy low and sell high! Shop southeast and sell northwest, or something like that.

Yep, classic Pacific Northwest prices. My friend got a locked (very clean) 96 with 150k for 10K and he bought it the second the ad came out. I talked to the dealer a few days later and they mentioned the phones had been ringing continually after the ad was placed. Up here you expect to pay at LEAST 8K-12K for clean 95+ with 150ish miles. Yeah, if you're willing to spend years looking for one you may find one cheaper.

For example...I just did a 100 mile search radius and this was the only 95+ available...and that's a very average price.
Cars for Sale: 1997 Toyota Land Cruiser 4x4 in Everett, WA 98201: Sport Utility Details - 309231082 - AutoTrader.com

Craigslist is the same way...
1997 Lexus LX 450 AWD

And these are all unlocked cars.

Locked cars with 150-175K are almost ALWAYS 10K+

A few months back a private seller had a locked LX with 125K going for 12.5K...I called and he had already sold it the first day.

I know it's great to throw out the "I can get a locked 95 with 125k for 7K where I live" but in the PNW that's virtually impossible.

I guess I would at least try to come up with a realistic figure for how much one is going to put into it. If you could get one with work and mods done, you could do the $ for $ comparison that way.

If I'd known then what I know now, I would have waited and bought one fully modded out on 'Mud. When I saw Romer's sell for around $18k last summer I nearly cried. I paid $8500 for mine with some body damage, 125k, lockers, etc... and I've probably got over $20k in it now, plus it could use some engine work, leaks, etc...

Fixing a seat can be done for $500-$1000. Maybe this isn't such a bad deal if it's really mechanically great and you can get them down at least $2000.

Have you used autotempest.com? You can do a search of any size covering over a half dozen car sales sites that way. At least it's a quick way to see what's out there. Don't forget you can always have a 'Mudder go look at a car for sale somewhere else for you.

Question.... Are you prepared to buy the truck if it were 2k less? Did you ask them if they'd sell it for less then $9,995? I would also ask to see a repair order to see what they spent to get it ready to sell.... It appears to have nice tires and wheels and it think on average White 80's bring a little more money....I think you can pretty much throw the book value away on old Land Cruisers..... they all sell and dealers deserve to make a profit ... What if the paid 4-5k for the truck and spent 1500 to 2000k to get in shape to sell 1 to 2k in profit and a little room to drop the price and your at $9995. If your serious go talk to them...... Make them an offer and see what the real number is!!!!
