Howdy All,

I recently came across a multi owner 100 series up for sale. The body and interior are in great shape for the age and amount of owners it has had. The only problem is it from up north... The rust... Oh God the rust... Is it even worth having a PPI done on it? She looks pretty rough underneath. I'm not a mechanic, but anything thinner than the frame is rusted through. Exhaust, skid plate, you name it. You can see a part of the rear suspension hanging loose, and it looks like there is oil dripping onto the exhaust. Is she a goner? Or just in need of some serious elbow grease and a new exhaust? I gave the frame a good once over with a screw driver. While the coating is pealing and the weld joints are rusting. It still feels solid to this amateur. What do y'all think? Much appreciated.

If the price is right along with the maintenance this isn’t so bad, at all really. Easily manageable, but again, based on price and maintenance. If you’re not wrenching on it, and you’re not from an area where mechanics are used to seeing rust, the cost of maintenance becomes a premium.
My case, pretty rusty, fight it where I can win. I do all my wrenching, I am coming up on 8 years of ownership, and at $4500 from the original owner with stacks of records.

Edit: the rear sway bar link is hanging off of the truck in the 4th picture. May want to ask questions or run.

That's the thing, they won't entertain a number below 10k and barely admit there is rust at all. They have only had it on the lot around a week though.

I say, RRRRRRRUUUUUUUUNNNNNNNNNN!!
They must be blind or just want to believe it's not rust under there. They are waiting for that sucker who wants to hand them money.

If you lived in the northeast, I'd agree that it's manageable, but there is no reason to buy a 100 series in Houston with that kind of rust. Take your time, you'll find a rust free one here in Texas and your life will be MUCH easier every day after that.
