Is it me or does this look like some sloppy work? (1 Viewer)

I agree with everyone else it is just crap work. It looks to me that there was no prep work done. If my tech showed me work like that my boot would be inserted deep. It's just a accident waiting to happen.

Yes, shoddy work... My Ford towers had holes for mounting bolts and I mounted mine with grade 8 bolts. Have the shop cut the old ones off for free then buy new Ford towers and mount them yourself with bolts.

That's almost as sloppy as I left my ex fiance. Definitely no bueno.

Thanks for the replies guys. Ill talk to them on Tuesday and figure out something.

Someone mentioned that the shocks look like they are already extended out pretty far an I have to agree. The truck is SOA now and I'm not too sure there is much room for droop now!

Your new shock towers probably compounded the issue. Post some pics of your setup, including some that show your bumpstops.

Come to our meeting on Wed... you can get 1st hand advice from someone who has installed Ford towers.

The bump stops are stock currently. Let me see if I have a pic to load up.

The shop that did the work is near my parents house and I'll be out there next week (about and hour and a half from DC) to take care of some stuff and get my truck back. Otherwise, I'd love to come to a meeting. It's been a long time since I've done anything club related

This pic prob doesn't really help but it's all I have on my iPad. It's been lowered down a bit with stock springs

This is more what I was expecting or hoping for.....

I brought the 60 in to have some ford towers mounted up. Should I have specified that the old towers should be removed? The fords are actually welded to the old shock towers on one side. They seriously chopped up my inner fenders too.

Should I be an unhappy camper right now?

how much instruction did you give them? from what i've read, it doesn't sound like any. there should not have been any hoping or assuming with this, only clearly defined expectations.
not giving them detailed instructions and hoping for the best, well this what you end up with.
if you walked in there and they said "yeah we got this" would have resulted in me asking them what they planned to do, in detail.
in short, before anybody else puts a wrench on my ride, they are going to present a detailed plan of attack.

Yes, that is more like it. Besides the terrible welds, did you make your expectations clear? Like bring them a picture like the one you posted? Often these guys take you quite literally and when you say "install these shock towers", that's precisely what they do.

I could have been clearer. I did tell them not to cut the sway bar mounts off the frame when they cut the old shock mounts off. I thought it would be pretty clear that the old ones be removed but I did imply the old ones should be removed.

To a certain extent, isn't this why you go to a specialty shop? If I was an expert, I would do it myself.

I work in a bar. If someone wants a killer $20 cocktail they come to me. I make awesome cocktails and get paid well for it.

Maybe I'm wrong to expect the same from someone claiming to specialize in something?

I would have to agree..there has to be some communication but the expert is the shop not the customer. Just because the customer may not have the skill set to describe a "kick-ass" setup.... one would expect at least an average job that included decent welding and normal basic fabrication skills. Why would you leave the old shock tower and why would you install teh ford towers...half-@$$ed...regardless of less than great communication from the customer.

There has to be a base level of quality regardless of the instructions given...unless you work in a scarp yard and they say throw it over there....and over there is good enough.

If any lesson is learned it is... don't go back there...

Unfortunately, our asthetic of a good install is likely different from from this shop. It appears that whoever was tasked with the job did not know the scope of work and was not provided a clear vision by the service manager.
Was this shop a Land Cruiser specialty shop, or a shop that claimed to be a specialty 4x4 suspension shop but really only install bolt on kits for Ford and Chevy 4x4s?

That is beyond shotly work. That is, "What the fu&^%$# type of work. The old shock towers not removed on one side. a hole cut in the new shock tower?!?!?! What the fu#$$%^^& !!!!!!! This type of shop looks like a grab your money and do some kind crappy work.

Try to get your money back. Because those shock towers need to be replaced and new virgin towers install. because think about it "are this the type of weld and craftman ship you feel comfortable with going the road at 70 MPH??????"

Report this shop here on the forum so we can all AVOID this shop. Then Report this guy/shop to the BBB.

I know I sound like a hard ass but I have been screw over on my V8 conversion. I researched and saved for years and the engine/wiring shop for my Vortec 5.3 took advantage of me and others This guy does not have a sole. He sold from me by getting money up front and not delivering on the parts and the wiring harness. Now I have spent more on the repairs then I did on the engine and harness. I could list all of the crappy work he did but this is your thread. Get your money back and report this guy because if you do not report him he/shop will screw over the next guy and, the next and, the next!

Depends on what he charged you. Even if they are s***ty welds I don't imagine they would ever come off. I'd say that looks like a $50 job at best, and why, as a shop, would you ever let work like that roll out the door? If he tries to charge you $200 I would tell him to go to hell.

Well I payed for 2 hours of labor and drove it home. The owner of the shop said he hadn't looked at it before but agreed that it did not look good. He offered to try and make it right, specifically by cleaning up the fender well cuts but I told him I'd just prefer to not have them cut or weld anything else!

I'm sure they or good for lifts and bolt on stuff, but I won't recommend them for anything that involved cutting or welding...... They are probably one of the only offroad shops in winchester, va if anyone wants a hint as to which shop it is
