is insurance on an FJ80 higher than other vehicles?

USAA charged $650/6mos on the dually and quoted $1680/6mos apples to apples regarding coverages

I have USAA and it is nowhere near that high. Mine is about $1400/6 mos. for 3 vehicles.

I have USAA and I do not remember off hand what my exact rate is
But I have full overage on my 80 and it is less than my wife's brand new Hyundia Veracruz

There is no way mine is even close to what USAA quoted you

Thanks guys....once I buy my FJ80 I will quote shop and post the results

I was pretty surprised at how much mine went up.
Iv'e had Jeeps, Blazers and such and didn't pay this much.
$107 a month for just liability through esurance.

Mine is $42 per month full coverage with state farm. It's my secondary vehicle which helps. The difference in rates as a secondary vehicle could make purchasing a cheap daily driver worth it.

USAA, I pay $627 every 6 months. On a $9,000 LX450 and I pay $1026 every 6 months for a $90,000 car. It doesn't make sense to me.
So what's this $90K car you have?

I am with TN Farm Bureau - house, 2002 Outback Limited, and the 97 LX. With all my discounts, I am right around $850 for the LX for full coverage per year. Knowing that what appear to be minor accidents to these trucks often times is a totaled truck to the insurance company due to costs of repair/sourcing parts, I opted for the coverage that will replace my truck with an equivalent truck should it be totaled. My LX coverage is more than my Outback and house coverage combined (yes, I live in a little box by choice). I have never had to file a claim, so in reality, I can't tell you if my coverage is all that it was laid out to be when I signed up. I hope I never have to find out.

Again...I am a licensed insurance agent and this is what I do for a living...so take the next statement as factual. This is the law in WA state and I know from experince in 13 other states that the law is very similar.

if your vehicle is modified and in an accident THEY WILL NOT COVER ANY MODIFICATIONS. They will replace a 1997 lx 450 and or w/e you drive...not your 2400 dollar rear bumper ect. Now because this is total s***...a little known fact for people with modified cars is an endorsement that can be added to the policy. In WA the endorsement code is 75-1. This endorsement adds a specific dollar amount of coverage to the vehicles damage symbol and covers modification to the vehicle ( after market anything) as long as you have proof of purchase.

Whats so great about this you ask? well if you have the endorsement on your vehicle for 2k extra which for me increased the monthly cost by a dollar.....and lets say you forget to tell your agent yea I added more stuff...and now you at a total of around 8k modifications...well guess what....The insurance company 99.99% of the time will pay for all modifications done in a total loss situation. So I thought you all might like to know that. I was into a lot of sports cars before my 80 and I have had personal experience with this and with members in car clubs.

My '91 FJ80 I have has the basic liability coverage 30/60/25 bodily/property through Progressive Insurance. Costs me < $24 a month. And I have at least 2 speeding tickets over the last 3 years, and 1 not at fault accident claim. That's the cheapest I've ever had any car insured in 14 years of driving. Just for kicks I selected collision/comp with $1000 deduct. and I even entered $1000 in custom part reimbursement, and it's still at <$36 a month.

My '98 Altima (207k miles) for comparison costs me about $37 a month with comp/coll coverage and $1000 deduct.

The roadside assistance is what amazes me, $31 a year on the FJ80, on my '98 Altima it's $16, and my wife's '12 Hyundai which is just $3. I'm guessing that has more to do with age of the vehicle.

I also have USAA and for full coverage with VERY healthy liability limits on an 80, 100, Sequoia and Duramax I'm about $220 per month. We are squeaky clean drivers without traffic or accident histories. The quote you received seems outrageous, unless you drink and drive a lot or have a propensity for knocking down guardrails frequently. I will tell you though that my 80 is the most expensive to insure of my fleet.....................reasons unknown since is also the vehicle worth the least amount of money.

Wow, mine is 48/mo for liability though esurance and I thought that was a bit high but not out of line. 107 would piss me off. I turn 25 next week and I am hoping it goes down.

Hahahahahaha......no tickets, no duis and no accidents

I also have usaa & for liability only I am paying $480/6 months, in California. It is the most expensive of my 3 cars to insure, also the oldest.

I pay 66 a month for liability on my 91 80 and a 98 Cherokee. Not sure what the 80 is by itself. The cheapest insurance combo I had was the Cherokee and a 78 f150. 38 a month. When I had my 62 and Cherokee it also cost me 66 a month. In Ohio the insurance companies pay out on modifications. I am with Federated insurance. My parents have been with them forever and when I needed to look into insurance I also went with them

I am at about $118 per month on a 2007 Lexus IS 250 w/ full coverage and my 97' 80 Series w/comp/collision. I am with Safeco Ins.

My 93 LC is $3.27 cheaper annually than the 02 Legacy GT (non turbo usdm) wagon it replaced. The current lineup for me is my wife's 05 Outback XT (turbo), my 93 LC and my 87 BMW 325is (limited use policy, sub 5000 miles a year). All vehicles have liability plus comprehensive. The obxt has collision as well. Our 6/mo bill is $575. I've been w State Farm for 16 years and have a relatively clear record.

the damage it applies to what ever it hits

This is sumhtin I just don't get :hhmm:

With my previous insurance company (Unitrin Direct), I made a claim when I hit a refrigerator on the highway :o

They paid to replace the bumper (I upgraded to a BIOR plate/bull bar) and next thing I know, they want to jack up my rates because the new bumper would cause more damage during an accident

I honestly don't see how they even came up with that notion

If I hit something, the damage I cause would be the same as if I had an OEM bumper :meh:

The only difference I see is that I'll have more of a chance of driving away without the need of a tow truck

Ended up switching companies after that
