I got my inverter installed over the weekend.

Vector 800 watt installed in the center console in place of the no longer needed CD changer. It seemed the most logical place to put one. Easy access from the front or back seats.

Removed CD changer and the sub/amp unit. With the sub and amp removed, the grill for the sub should provide plenty of ventilation to keep the inverter from overheating.

Used 4AWG wire to run direct to battery via driver side channel. Only other thing I need is a dashboard switch to keep the unit from inadvertantly being left on.

Looks good, good use of the space ....... makes me think that we LC people have the same amount of space down there, just need to cut out a hole.

Very cool use of space I agree! I may have to check into the avaliable space on my FZJ80. I think the storage compartment under the arm rest is much deeper due to it no having a CD changer under there and that additional storage space may be taking up all that cool space to put in a converter, but I could be wrong.

I was amazed at how much room there was under there. I'm trying to think of some other things to put under there. :)

could u post some pics of the install...... pretty plzz

The pics I posted are the only ones I have. It was pretty straight forward.

- Remove center console.

- The metal bracket in the middle photo is bolted to the base. It is also what the sub assembly is bolted to. I removed the four bolts holding this bracket to the base. This allowed access to the changer. I removed the changer and unbolted the sub assembly from the bracket.

- Once you remove the changer and sub you can see how much space there is under the console.

- I used hex head tek (drill point)screws to mount the inverter to the base.

- You can see in one photo the bungee cord. I used this because there was nothing to screw the front of the inverter to.

- Attached 4AWG cable to the posts on the back of the inverter and ran them under the carpet beneath the driver's seat. I bought 8 ft of cable in red and black and that was just about perfect.

- Remove trim piece at the driver's door that covers the channel that the wire will run through.

- I removed the dummy pedal in the foot well to make removal and re-intallation of the trim piece easier.

- Routed the cable through the grommet in the firewall, along driver side fender under the hood.

- Attached the mega fuse to the inside fender panel. Got the fuse block from West Marine. Using 175amp mega fuse.

Viola!

My last bit of work to really get this mod completed is to mount the switch in the dash similar to what Hayes did on his installation.

So you mounted it with a bungie cord? You couldn't mount it to the metal frame with some self taping screws?

The rear of the unit (part facing front of truck) is mounted with self taping screws. The front of the unit (part facing the rear of the truck) hangs past the end of the metal frame. There was nothing to screw into. The two screws that I installed hold the inverter in place and the bungee cord is there mostly to keep it from rattling inside the console.

See the fourth bullet in the write up above your post;)
