Nicely done. I rememberer the feeling of elation when I finally sorted out the fuel delivery issue with vortec 350 in my hj47. No go drive it and post pics.

We left a cold and rainy Cape Town heading for a somewhat surprisingly late but sudden bout of snowfall - you boys will not understand but snow is somewhat of a rarety in South Africa




Our first night stopover was at the Tankwa Tented Camp at Stonhenge where the infamous Afrika Burn festival is held. Next morning we had to flee the clutches of the mummy ...





Our second night was at the Kagga Kamma Game reserve





which is known for it's Bushman people, wild life(including Leopard) and wonderfull rock formations








My co-pilot and camera lady.She was also the one who escorted me all those years ago when we went to collect Olive at the shipping docks ...










We found a spot that left us completely protected from all sides - Olive kept guard at the singly Entry/Exit point






The next day on our way to the Cedarberg we found even more snow ....








with a few deep river crossings ...

and some dangly bits at our campsite.





On a technical note the LRT functioned as intended but I will still try to locate an OEM FJ 40 fuel pickup/return fitting.Fuel consumption ranged between 7.3 and 8.1 km/L.

And for the English-speakers amongst us, that converts to a low of 17.3 miles per US gallon and a high of 19.228 per US gallon. That is very respectable indeed.

Great pics. I shamelessly stole the pic of your campsite, Englishman's Grave and the Mummy Escape for my screen saver. My secretary came in to my office and asked where I took the mummy picture. I said that was an internet mate's Cruiser in South Africa and she did a double take saying "really? I thought it was yours." I wish, though I can see the similarity come to think of it. If I ever re-paint, I'm thinking 6H9. I love the 6L4, but that little bit darker is nice.

Fantastic photos tmarx...I was there in 2009 on a motorbike tour and vividly remember a section that took us from Clanwilliams to Sutherland as being one of the toughest days on the bike. Your pics no 10, 11, and 12 remind me of that route we took; there was no snow then, twas faarkin hot!

OK before I go the BFH route, anybody possibly found another cure for this on the Aussie Long Ranger tanks ?

run the bolt and swing arm from the bottom of the spigot instead of the top, you can also space it down a 1/2" or so

Mine hit at the centre bolt but not the swing arm. I think mine is mounted to the bottom as Wayne said but I'd have to check...but I rode the motorbike to work today so Lexie's in the garage at home.

I checked, my pivot arm is attached at the top like yours, but no evidence of it hitting my gas tank-remember mine is a cylinder though. I'll ask my mate Chris about his Long Ranger.

Thanks guys, much appreciated.I will follow Wayne's suggestion and take it from there.This weekend we were in the dunes and I never hit the tank once although she was not loaded at all.It seems to only happen if the springs bottom out on both sides and the axle moves backwards and upwards.Maybe the axle is located slightly further back by the 4" Hell Creek springs?

awesome build, thats a real lekker 40 i wanted to ask where you sourced most of your OEM parts from in the cape? Im up in Zim and have a hell of a time getting my hands on stuff. i d have an aunt though who lives in CT and more family in Petersburg, so if need be i can always get them to get the stuff i need and ship it up to me. but i haven't found any decent outlet over the net. was wondering who you dealt with.

other than that, awesome build. love the 1UZ, thats my dream right there for my 45.

Thanks Ross. I sourced most parts from TOY themselves Ex Japan ........ it just takes a tad longer.Also try N1 4x4 in Pretoria?Tshwane although mosty of their stuff is not OEM but rather imported from Aussie

And most of that is in turn imported from Thailand, sadly.

Not a single mine outfit in Australia uses rovers and only the odd farmer or bushman does anymore....that's gotta tell you something. Still, they do have their devoted followers, poor misguided sods.
