Intro and diesel help

Hey gents!

I recently moved from Little Rock with my JDM 86' BJ70 and my four month old Rhodesian Ridgeback and I'm looking forward to meeting the guys in the club! I'm here for training until Nov and then I'll head down to Clovis.

I already need some help ha! I knew my non turbocharged 3b would struggle up here and I'm shopping a turbo kit (D42s) but I need a diesel guy to do a tune up until it arrives. I tried to adjust the fuel myself but I really need a professional or someone with experience to take a look. Can you guys recommend anyone? I really appreciate it and I look forward to getting to know the club!

Welcome to NM! Sorry I can't offer any diesel assistance, but I'm sure you'll hear from others in the club. We don't have too many diesel trucks, but there are a few. Someone should be able to point you in the right direction.

I know you are looking for help with service, but for parts, see Dan Busey (Cruiser Dan) at American Toyota - he's the parts manager and can help with almost anything you might need. Having said that, diesel parts are likely harder to come by (since Toyota has never sold any diesel Cruisers in the states), but I'd sure check with him.

There are only three diesels that I know of in the club. DanS HJ-45 has experience with Toyota diesels (3B, 12HT, 2LT). PM him and find out when he might be in town.

Dan- Welcome! I've got an '87 BJ70 with a 3B and can help with adjusting the fuel. I'm no professional, but I'm comfortable with the 3B and its fuel system. Send me a PM if you want my contact info. Golden advice from the previous posters too!

When is the next get together/meeting?

I have a couple projects coming up if anyone is interested in turning some wrenches. I have OME leaf springs, shackles, and pins waiting to be let loose in my garage and just ordered a turbo kit which should arrive within two weeks. If anyone has experience or a helping hand to spare I'll provide the steaks and beer.

If there's anything I can do to help anybody out, lemme know.

You don't need a professional to do anything, but if you do: Central Motive Power is the place in Albuquerque. They are the Denso injection shop in town, and were easily able to rebuild our injectors, etc...

What you need is a pyrometer to do much when the turbo arrives. If you don't have one yet, I'd recommend ISSPRO (their gauges are beautifully backlit). The fuel screw on the 3B isn't hard to adjust, and it's more trial and error than anything. For the most part, if the IP works at all, it works fine.

Maybe your injectors need rebuilt to ensure they snap shut cleanly, but other than that what you really need is a turbo, and pronto.

We met at sonic in March and April, then I was in Mexico when the May meeting was scheduled. Granted we didn't have any cold ones or good food but we did talk trucks

Guys, thanks for the replies, I think a get together would be sweet. I'm in a break in training all this week and I'm planning on doing my springs at the Kirtland Auto Hobby Shop Wednesday morning (they are closed mon-tues). If someone has access to a shop or a garage I'm definitely game to meet up and work on the springs with the club. All we should need is a floor jack and stands. I've been PB blasting for weeks but still kinda worried I'll need air to break some nuts free, though which is why I like the auto shop.

Turbo came in! Just waiting for the manifold and install kit. This is the project I'd most like help with and once everything comes in I'll make a post.

Can anyone recommend and fair exhaust shop? I'm already having the down pipe made and will just need to run some straight 2.5", no muffler to start.

Thank for the Denso info. My motor only has 50k km on it but I might have them look at the injectors anyway just to be ready for the turbo. Any other suggestions? I'm of course going to do new filters, coolant, oil, and a boost, pyro at the same time. Anything you think I'm missing?

it's not on the list Pappy linked to, but MBS muffler and brakes just down the hill a bit from Don Chalmers on 528 did a great inexpensive custom exhaust system for me.

Thanks for link Pappy. I went in person to Route 66 and he quoted me $350 for flex pipe, with no muffler or down pipe (I already had it made). This seems really steep as all I need is about 8 feet of 2.5" with a couple bends. What do you guys think? I think I'll call MBS tomorrow...

well, mine was like 10 years ago. $400 for the whole system for a V8 from manifolds back. 2- 2"ers into a 3" and a flowmaster 40 series.
