as to another issue that had me drop off the Taco at the dealership was a vibration at what I thought was at around 1300-1500rpm, didn't seem to be speed related. the shop foreman had the Taco for about 9 days while I was away at work. when I came back he told me that he took a lot of copies of the electric info of the Taco and sent them to the mother ship multiple times. the mother ship had no ideas as to what was causing the vibration. during all of this he also had installed some fancy vibration detection equipment on it. this always came back as a tire issue at around 35mph and 53mph. so he had the tire guy at the dealership re balance the tires with the road force balancer. he says all tires where out of balance, which I kind of find hard to believe because I use a specific tire place for all my tire needs. anyway, after re balancing and placing the worst ones on the rear, I can't really notice the vibrations anymore. interestingly, he said he took a number of non-hybrid Taco's that where on the lot for test drives and said that all had the same vibrations, some even worse than what mine had. don't know if the shocks aren't tuned right to fight this? wonder if the Trailhunter or TRD PRO have the same issue with their fancy shocks? I had this vibration leaving the dealership according to my wife, and when I installed the BFG KO3, and with the current Nokian. so far all is well on that front, will be interesting what happens when I do a tire rotation.
What kind of vibration?

The 2nd and 3rd gens all have vibration due to driveshaft u-joints and front diff needle bearings going bad.

hard to explain, but it sure felt like it was drive line related, but apparently not. after having the tires balanced again the vibrations have basically gone away, though now it seems like there is a slight one around 65-67mph. will have to see if this keeps happening over time. Apparently the 4th gen Taco also has this diff needle bearing.

Installed the Icon shock stiffener, or whatever they called it, for the front shock tower.

That job could

Could not be easier. It took me longer to order them than to install.

Well, the vibration issue is still there. Dropped it off with the dealer again a few weeks ago. When I picked it up the shop Forman said that they re balanced/road force test all 4 tires and now claim that two of the tires are out of round. So took the truck to the tire shop where I bought these Nokian tires. They checked the tires again and said they are going to replace one tire but have to return the next day since they have to order them in. Went back the next afternoon and they said they replaced two tires. So I took it home. Still same vibration. Went back the next day to the tire shop. They did some testing again and said all 4 tires were within spec. So he asked me if I wanted to try another set of tires/brand? He suggested the Toyo AT3. Asked how much that would cost, $160. So said go ahead. These tires seem to ride a tad smoother than the Nokians did. Still same vibration. Went back to the dealer and told him about getting new tires and no real change, maybe a slight change. He is at a loss. Must some kind of harmonic balance issue going on🤷‍♂️ I can duplicate that vibration now at 35/45/55mph at 1300ish rpm. 4 sets of tires so I don’t think it’s totally tire related but maybe something in the drive train doesn’t like tires🤷‍♂️ Toyota shop Forman hasn’t yet given up so will probably drop it off again when I go to work.

On to another issue. We bought the hybrid in case we wanted to get a camper trailer or a boat sometime. Figuring the extra torque would help with the towing. About a month ago we bought a 2004 Tab 320 trailer. About 1800lbs probably as we had it loaded. We went out on the first camping trip with it. Drove 191.4 miles round trip. 10.6mi of that was without the trailer going to/from the gas station. Penciled out a 12.67mpg. Seems a bit low for such a light aerodynamic trailer 🤷‍♂️ drove about 58mph for about 70mi and 67/68mph for the rest, about 110mi. 70ish miles as on flat surface at sea level, the rest in the hills with a number pretty good grades. It never really felt like the camper was behind us except for the higher rpm’s. With our small fuel tank that doesn’t give me much range.

Well, the vibration issue is still there. So took the truck to the tire shop...

I had Discount Tire rebalance my wheels recently. When I left I noticed they were vibrating. I thought crappy balance ... until I noticed they put 40psi in the tires. I dropped them down to 30 and they ride much better.

Went camping again this past weekend, where we went had only one long climb going and then on the way back gradual climbs over longer distance. Got 14.7mpg this time.
When we pulled up to our house got a check engine light 😐 hybrid malfunction and automatic start/stop failure. Dropped it off at Toyota Sunday. Was able to talk with the shop Forman on Monday. He said that when ever you get a check engine light you automatically get the automatic start/stop failure message. Had an odd thing happen Saturday when we were driving on a single track dirt road. About half the time I got off the go fast pedal and slowed down the rpm’s would either stop at 2000rpm or go back up to 2000rpm, when I would push on the pedal again the rpm’s would go to idle. I told the shop Forman about that. I won’t be home for a while so Toyota will have the truck for a while.
