I'm still not sure why this is "one of the most capable 80's in the world". It has J springs plus spacers and L shocks and factory lockers. What makes that more capable than all the other 80's out there with J springs and OME shocks and factory lockers? I'm not knocking that setup, but it's hardly unique and a fairly standard bolt on suspension.

The liner, on the other hand, is wonderfully ugly

Nay, I do like your approach to building your truck to fit your exact needs (and I've already contacted Frankies about getting in line for one of their lifts), but when he did that suspension 5 or so years ago, there werent' a lot of choices, and it probably was "one of the most capable 80's in the world". Considering the trails in the US this thing has conquered, and the roads and conditions in which he drove in Maylasia and Cambodia, this rig deserves a little respect.
This guy shouldn't have to qualify his statements, especially in an eBay post, so I guess I'll take up for him.

I'll duck and cover now. Fire away.

I rode in this truck with Robin on Pritchett Canyon during CM03. Definitely a well built truck. And well used to be sure.

Is it a POS, definitely not, the work that I saw that was done to it was good work. Now could it have developed some problems over the last few years? Sure. Buyer just needs to check it out and know what he's looking for.

As for the bed-liner on the body. Lots of people like the look and I can fully understand the practicality of it on a trail rig, but I stand by my FIRM opinion that it adds A LOT of unnecessary weight to an already heavy truck. I just don't like the COG getting affected like that, scares me.

Oh, I agree it's a nice build and I wasn't comparing it to mine or asking the owner to defend it...this rig definitely speaks for itself and the story is pretty unique. I should have quoted this from above in the thread:

Anyone who thinks the rig is a POS is out of their minds. It would be hard to find a better built trail rig...or a more well-maintained daily driver. To each his own on the opinions of it's appearance with the black coating, but it is an ignorant tard that lables it a POS.

It would be hard to find a better built trail rig than a standard 4" lift? I just don't see the need to elevate this rig past a standard lift and armor, nice stereo, and bed liner. And it's clearly been used hard, which I wouldn't view as favorable in the used vehicle market. I'd much rather buy a rig that saw its whole life in the Southwest US than slogging through Malaysia and Cambodia.

Having said that, modified 80's don't sell for much more than stock, so this is a killer way to get your mods included in a 3 or 4 year loan at probably 10 cents on the dollar rather than starting from scratch. And it is a complete build from apparently a reputable owner. Someone should jump if it's back on the market.
