I can see what You are saying about the 4.2L Six Lead Head, and this engine was actually on my list of possibilities and may still be if I find one for super cheap....!!!

I have a good source at an Engine core supply that I can pretty much get anything from, and not all of the engines have to be rebuilt, as many came from good running wrecked cars....

He gets 2 or 3 2JZ-GTE Supra Turbo engines a year (Says he will watch for one for me) and a gazillion of any and every Chevy and Big Three maker engines every year. They are so big that they smelt and ingotize aluminum into 4' x 4' x 2 foot thick ingots!!!!!

Wanna hear something hilarious? He said he gets as much for a 3FE as a 2JZ-GTE core !!!!!! I about fell out laughing.... He said there is actually quite a demand apparently in that area for cores, and he ships them all over the USA also..

I have bought some pretty amazing stuff from them over the years.....

Maserati TC Turbo 2.2L 16V head for an 89 TC Chrysler Maserati

Aurora INDY -SPEC engine- Yes, Billet Steel crank, Titanium valves and CNC ported heads, Dry Sump Oil pump, etc...

Several Porsche V8 Engines (SOHC and DOHC)

Just gotta keep your eyes peeled and know what to look for.....

For what it's worth, I have a fully worked 3F petrol engine in my FJ62. The guy that built my engine for me build professional race engines that he sells for 90-100k to the big boys over here. My engine was built for reliability and torque but still makes around 200 HP. He has advised me that bolting up a supercharger not a turbo is well worth the investment. Pro Charger is the one he specifically mentioned. It would add aprox 100 more ponies under the hood. Now my engine would handle the supercharger option very easily, but it is NOT A STOCK engine by any stretch. I do not know how an older engine would hold up to the pressure. I might be interested if the shipping costs and import duties and taxes are reasonable into Aussie land.

Could you post up some photos of your engine as I would be interested at having a look ?

Well if you want to get a little creative and get a VGT/VNT turbo - or just a very well sized single/twin turbo, you could make a 2JZ make as much torque as you wanted just off idle. The latest generations of turbo engines can pretty much make diesel-like low end torque.

Also don't get me wrong, I'm not against a turbo/blower kit for a 3FE, I just think if a kit were to be made, it should have a lot of testing done to make sure it can take it and be reliable. Maybe Someone doing a V8 swap would willing to give up their old 3FE up in the name of science?:D

If you could get the 3FE reliably to around or a little more then Jeep 4.0HO power levels (~195HP, should be pretty close to Mace's power actually), within a reasonable budget I bet most people would be quite happy.

The jz engine torque numbers are no myth. How ever if I were going to drop a Supra engine into a LC it would be a 7mgte with a set of ARP head studs. Yes it is said that you cant keep a head gasket in them but that is because the factory torque on the head bolts was incorrect and later corrected by a campaign and a TSB with a higher torque setting for the head bolts. They make a little more bottom end torque than the jz engines and you can beat them black and blue and they just set back and beg you for more. Once the boost builds in one it is just hang on and enjoy the ride...

I am interested in a 3FE turbo manifold, with a T25/28 flange, would probably buy one today if it was available.

This guy was really just a lot of hot air. I think he sold his 62 already. He went from turbo kit to Buick engine swap to v8 swap and predictably none of it happened.

Happened across this thread while searching for something else. I'm looking at an engine conversion (Duramax if it could be shoehorned in, but most likely a 6.0 Vortec) in about 2-3 years from now, but if something were available in ways of a turbo kit (which I think would work a lot better than a supercharger for the 3FE) I'd be seriously interested. Especially if it was a complete bolt-in setup.

You could just build your own turbo kit. Its not much harder than building a custom exhaust. Install a afr gauge, a piggyback injector, and tune it.

... The 62 transmission seems to eat up more power than other automatics....

Exactly! The A440F eats power. I switched to the H55F and don't feel I need any more power. It is no V8 but I can accelerate up hills in 5th that would have had me down to 45mph with the slushbox. My 3FE has Jim C. head works and an overbored TB. Eliminated CAT and ugly loud Magnaflo muffler. My power in 5th gear on the beltway is nice. I run 80mph+ just about every day. I'm on 33x10.5 BFG AT K,whatever the new ones are. H55F is the answer to more power for the FJ62

So just a idea. A few years ago there was a guy that developed a adapter for a GM Eaton M62 supercharger out of the 3800 v6 to a jeep 4.0.
Not sure how many he sold and not sure if he even still sells them.
However a machined adapter for the super charger plus some supporting mods, you can buy the chargers for 50 to 150 bucks.
So a adapter kit for 500-600 bucks , owner supplies the charger.
