I soaked my intake manifold upper and lower in power purple over the weekend. that hard crunchy gunk on the inside of the manifold just dripped away. I have polished all of the mateing pieces. but to get the power purple residue and any metal shavings off I have decided to put them in an extra hot wash in my dishwasher. again they're already pretty clean this is just to get the excess the greaser film off of the intake. good idea bad idea?

Are you married?

I did it. It worked. I got in trouble.

Totally beat me to it. Exactly what I was thinkin'.

I get a rash of chit for washing sorta dirty rags in the washer.

You could take it to a car wash and hit it with the high pressure hose, or just your garden hose??

x2...clamp the manifold to your tailgate or bumper, so the pressure won't send it scooting (ask me how I know) across the wash bay, and wear goggles or a face shield. Sunglasses will do. I wear a raincoat. Turn the knob to "engine degreaser". I keep a stack of quarters in a pill bottle in the console for just such an occasion.

.... it looks like it worked... like I said before... it was already about 98% clean.. and it looks like the dishwasher did not fair too badly.. so but I can imagine had I just plopped it in there without de-greasing it first would had really done a number on the dishwasher.

I would recommend maybe running the dishwasher on a cycle without any dishes before stacking it full of stuff you eat off of.

 I hear you on that! So do I...but still married...28 years worth! :D

I only wash them on the sly, then clean the washer well afterwards. The rags can make a mess... No need to raise the the ire of the :princess:

Too funny! She's got me trained to wipe down the tub when finished and run a rinse cycle too!

She want's her jet :censor: black Z clean and waxed all the time...this is the price to pay!!

No doubt. I know they complain about us in the same way.:crybaby:

I have a serious ball cap addiction. I wear them all the time. They get pretty grimy. About three times a year, I put 10 or 12 caps in the dishwasher and use a double dose of normal dish washing powder. . . they come out very nice and clean. And, yes, I'm married to a woman that gave up a long time ago.

Did they flash dry or did you use the clothes drier too? Cause that would be some racket.
Otherwise I like the ingenuity.
