i recommend welding a chunk of steel on the end of the axle shaft like you have to anyone who decides to make one of these .

i once made a drift for putting together excavator tracks out of a broken skidder axle , about 30 hits in with the sledge a big chunk of hardened axle shaft broke off and jammed into my face . it was tonnes of fun .

Similar story - knew a guy using an 8lb sledge as a punch - hammer om hammer. Big shard in his bicep, lots of blood.

well, I made mine...

buddy of mine gave me an axle shaft from some beastish vehicle.
With a flange welded on end. Probably a mil vehicle. The flange will work great with a HighLift to pull it out.

big thing. about 40" also. Heavy. At least 1.5"

Only took me something like 3 hrs with a grinder to make a vague point on it...

Realistically, though, I don't think I'd carry it often in the truck. A bit much. And a serious projectile...

I'll just use a big shackle around the shaft. No need to weld anything.

Will play with it a bit in the yard to pull bushes from various directions. :D

(are you sure these things are fully hardened? Not just the splines? I would think some built-in elasticity would help with non-breakage.)

thanks for the idea! I'm gonna make one as well with some small leverage arms like SNAKE EATER did.. I will call her "Excalibur"
