what is the best way to do this? Should I take the bumper off and lay it on it's face then bolt it on that way or just have 2 guys hod it while I bolt it on? Is an air gun best because I don't have an air gun.

What?

If you have an appropriate bumper, have someone hold it up and bolt it in.

Just hold up 110lbs

x2

rattle gun or wrench of your choice. Attained torque and type/grade of fasteners is more important than the method of tightening.

I wouldnt use a gun on it. You could crack the mounts off by running bolts down too tight. I bolted mine in place by using a floor jack under it. A tranny jack would work best if you have one.

I had a plate welded to the bumper, with another plate at 90 degrees to it, which created a flat surface under the winch. the underplate was braced to the face plate, all I had to do was drop the winch onto the plate, then line up the holes and bolt it in. You won't get two guys to hold that pig while you screw with the backing nuts without losing the end off a finger when they drop it...

or hang it from a beam or something with a chainfall, so you can easily take your time bolting it in...

I'll try to add pics to this tomorrow....

I put mine on by myself with no helpers. I put the winch on the ground, then took my aftermarket winch bumper and bolted it to the winch. Then I picked up one end and put it on a wooden box that was the same height as the front of the frame, picked up the other end slid it onto the frame ends, then slid the other end off the box and onto the frame ends and then bolted the bumper back up. Didn't take long and wasn't particularly difficult.

Unfortunately, I wasn't careful with routing the power lead and a little while later the insulation chaffed through and the resulting short fried my batteries. When I put in the new power cable I ran it through a piece of steel-reinforced hydraulic hose so it wouldn't happen again. It's been good for the last 27 years or so.

I'd take off the plate on the end w/o the motor assy and bolt it in place . Then slide the spool and motor into that piece .Have a bolt ready , It's not really that hard .

If your bumper is made for an 8274 you can just hold it up there and bolt it up. Might be easier with 2 people but not impossible.

x2 on the floor jack. it's a pain to keep the winch from rocking on the floor jack, but definitely manageable.

X3 on the floor jack.

I set a small piece of plywood on my floor jack, put the winch on it , moved it into position, and jacked it up into place. Make sure that you have spacers inside your bumper if the bolts pass through the bumper or the plate WILL bend in when you tighten up the bolts. My homemade plate is 1/4" as a comparison. My bumper has a pass-through for the line, similar to Cool cruiser's stout bumper.

Good luck.

It is funny how those 8274s like to walk off after you install them.

I weld a cap over one of the bolt heads to keep them from taking off so easy.

Floor jack it is. Thanks y'all.
