Ok, I 'm in kind of a bind. I am mostly though cutting the rot (a lot of it) out/off of my 77 fj40 project and was going to buy a 3/4 tub. Long story short, my regular car is now in for tranny work so I need my landcruiser for a daily driver. I cant find a tub that might fit, now, at a reasonable price - the fj is not for show - just for trail and fishing. I'm thinking of a temporary fix of just getting a sheet of 16 or 14 gauge sheet metal (I have welders and sheet metal brake) and making floor boards, back floor, etc. Not too concerned about how insides look and will simply cover up with rug until I find and buy tub. My questions are:
1 - what sheet metal gauge to use. I'm thinking 16 is regular but since using for floor board, etc and no ribbing should I use 14 or 12 gg - if 12 gg will it be easy to weld or will I be blowing thru old 16 gg. Dont have scrap around so I cant test for myself.
2 - If I do it this way and dont take off the tub yet can I spray something on bottom and top to stop any rust until I replace whole 3/4 tub later.
thanks for any help.
