Does anyone know the size of the small sheet metal screws that go around the edges of a factory soft top door? I'm taking apart a set of them and I've managed to only get about half of them off....the other ones have broken off.

They're JIS automotive series. You won't find them in the US, unless you take them of another 40. You will either have to use whatever will fit in the existing holes, or search for a FST to rob.

I find the part number for the sheet metal screws to be 93520-13010 and unfortunately are no longer available. Being sheet metal and not machine screws might search graingers or McMaster Carr. Because once installed the head is hidden by the weatherstripping just need to be sure the screw head is not any larger than stock to be sure you slide the weatherstripping on.

Right, I can find sheet metal screws that may work but the head size is the key. If anyone has any suggestions for alternatives please respond!

I had not found a good match … I had gone to true value and looked through what they had and used one that was good for the shaft size and countersunk but the head I had to grind down so it was flat and made the head not as wide

These are screws nobody will ever see and most of them that snapped I needed wider ones than original

As you might imagine… use a needle nose vise grip to hold them when grinding lol

I remember years ago there was talk that Toyota would reproduce a part if enough people could produce a VIN for the vehicle that needed that part. The discussion was about 16" non split rims. Finding enough VINs of 40 that left the factory with 16" rims never happened. In the US we have an advantage since all our FST models came with soft doors. I still have a FJ25 FST and FJ40 FST that are titled in my name. Not sure if Toyota has detailed records that far back but most my pre 75 FJ40s have model FJ40L on the VIN plaque. The V is not there. Because there is no OEM aftermarket replacement might be worth looking into. Pop rivets could work. Down side is once the door frame is drilled to except rivets would be major work to fill in the holes to use screws again.

I think I'm going to have to try maybe a #5 sheet metal screw which are not on the shelf that the local Lowes or HD. I have some #4, but they're to small.

Gunsmith's use a device to hold screws for shortening on a grinder. I believe its called a "gizzie" You can make one out of banding easy enough.

I made lots of set screws free hand by grinding off the head - I would end up with the set screw and a washer type disk

Check Here:

I have had some luck getting JIS and other metric hardware here that closely matches what Toyota used.
Thanx for that link! I think I was able to get what I think is pretty much the same thing from that site. I'll know for sure when they arrive and I'll update this thread when I do.

93520-13010 supersedes to 90161-A0003 which are readily available.
Thanx Beno....I did not know that. I just looked those up...holy smokes they are pricey for just one!

If you don't like the OEM option, get out your calipers and measure one, then go to McMaster Carr and see what you can find. Anything you can ever imagine fastener wise is available through their online cataloge, and you'd likely get anything you ordered next day from their SantaFe Springs warehouse.

Yup, that was the first place I tried since they usually have any fastener you could imagine, but I didn't see anything other than what I could find at a local hardware store. If the ones from Belmetric are comparable I'll post a picture of them next to the ones I pulled off and didn't have to break. They were only $.09 each. Not sure of the quality, but for $5 I'll see what they're like.

Pay to play.
Did find it interesting Amayama shows them out of production when you Google the part number up easily comes as well as the other part number. Find these for under $1.50. This is one of these play to play parts wouldn't mind playing for. When I was younger it wouldn't been out of the question anywhere near that much.

Now the Heritage Program that you need to play $700 for a piece of exhaust that cost a fraction of that just because of greed is something I will not support.
