Yikes, going to be hard for me to be of much help over Thanksgiving. We'll be either visiting my or Emma's family out of town. Maybe I can help do some prep work and the following week some after work.
No biggie, the important thing to me is getting the new motor in place with everything connected. Brian and I can pretty much do that ourselves if need be.

May be closer to Xmas now. We need to go see Andreas parents on Xmas or Thanksgiving. With her brother passing she is their only child and this year will be a rough one for them.

So ill be back in Raleigh on December 1st work on the cruiser for a few days, go to barn xmas party (where's the thread lol) and fly out the following Monday.
Hit a big snag with the cruiser. Mark, the guy I sold it to and bought it back off of has gone MIA and I still don't have the title.
He was away on work when I got the cruiser and in the middle of Boeing relocating him and all his belongings to Texas. He seemed to honestly not know anything major was up with the cruiser other than it overheated on him once and he parked it not having the time qith his schedule to work on it. When he found out the motor was toast he basically gave me the cruiser for the down payment I had sent him to hold it.
Awesome move.
He told Jeremy he'd send the title after moving. And was still looking for it last we heard and I told him I wasn't in a hurry as I needed to get a new motor and get it running and being 3000 miles away doesn't help to get that done fast.
But now since I got the 2fe he has ghosted Jeremy and won't respond to any messages I send him. Jeremy did see the title at his house in SC when he first went to check on the cruiser before I flew out but didn't realize Mark wouldn't be there when I arrived.
So for now I have a large paper weight, I mean @GarnerFJ40 has it lol.
I'm not going to go through the trouble of changing the cruiser around to accommodate the 2fe right now as I I may just have to yank it again if I don't resolve this. I've since walked that motor for another project in CO.
I'm going to yank the busted 3fe when I get there, strip it to see what is really stopping the pushrods from moving. I'm guessing the lifters are completley frozen in the bores. See if it is fixable in any way and do the HG at the same time.

If Mark and the title never materialize Then I've got some tough choices.
1. Try to find someone parting a 91 or 92 out that will sell me the title and both VIn plates. I found one guy willing but he didn't have the door plate so I passed. (This is hard to do as most people aren't going to sell those to a random stranger)

2. Find another 80 and swap parts. This is hard because have you seen the ludicrous prices on 80s???

3. Strange option but my friend has a 95 LR discovery with the uber rare manual trans option that he will sell to me for 1k. Runs fine now but it's a LR lol. So get that buy a swap kit for 1.5k and put the uber reliable om606 out of my mercedes into the rover. Reliability issues fixed. Fix weak axles by swapping in a set of 80 series axles which is pretty common with kits to do it. If the title for the cruiser never materializes then I would part out the 80 and use those geared and ARB locked axles.

4. The title materializes and all is good. (Not looking like a huge chance this happens)

But anyway if anyone wants to turn a wrench or drink a beer while I do, let me know.

Got a link to that? From what I've read an abandoned vehicle needs to go to a tow company and then get a lein on it and then sold at a special sale. That may be here in WA though can't remember if I looked it up in NC. I thought I did as I researched this avenue a bit when he first disappeared.
Abandoned vehicle title claim.

From what I just saw

Although a small fear would be he gets contacted and then just says oh yeah I want it back and then it's gone. Seriously don't think it would happen although with it being registered in SC I'm wondering if that would effect it at all.

someone suggested registering the vehicle in Vermont, which seems to be pretty straight forward.

Why abandoned vehicle?

Ask the dmv about a lost title. Seems to be that the vehicle is yours. Tell them you lost the trie before you could put it in your name.

No proof as to that fact.

Sucks it comes to this much extra trouble, but usually I find these things happen for a reason. LMK how I can help bud.

I was in similar situation on one of my vehicles. The dmv lady said that all it takes is for an inspector to come by and ensure the truck is not stolen. And then you are good to apply for new title.
Other issue is getting a WA state inspector to NC lol. It's something to think about though maybe get Brian or someone to fo that route and put it in their name first. Thanks for the heads up.

Yeah. That’s what I was thinking.
First things first is to get a new nc title under yours or Bryan’s name.

Then once you get it to your state you get another title.

I have not followed through on that just yet. It will be for a 1973 40 series that will be frankencruisered.

@Comet might have research on that. Maybe @RedHeadedStepChild , too?
It’s been over 10 years, but when I registered the BJ I just needed a bill of sale. So, at least back then, it was pretty straight forward. They do require a safety inspection. Not sure I’m emissions these days.

Del when you did this with yours was the vehicle currently/last registered in NC or another state. Did you have a signed bill of sale from the previous owner?
I called the NC DMV but they are as helpful as I remember LOL.

Watched a couple videos on this, basically I need a generic bill of sale (censored and classified), then I need to pay the NADA value tax on the vehicle, fill out the transfer of vehicle form, with my current WA address and send in a cashiers check for the tax and title transfer fee. Then I get my plates in the mail and some sort of paper work instead of a title that I can take to the WA dmv to transfer to a WA title or something basically like that.

It was a truck I had in pieces. I had a title with some ladies name on it but not notarized. They told me they could not accept it without it being notarized.
I told them I had no idea who that person was.

I asked if there was another way. She gave me the inspectors name and number to call and make an appointment. With vivid they come to you now instead of you having to go to them.

He inspects the vins. Ensures it is not stolen then your hood to apply for a “lost title”

That’s how she explained it to me.

I ended up selling the truck so didn’t bother getting the title under my name
