I want my 80 to last forever, but...

Wouldn't ever part with my 80... My commuter is a 2011 CT200h complete with LED Headlights, Pre-Collision, Leather and Nav....and it the ugliest color on the planet...At the time they had stop shipping CT's due to the earthquake in Japan and I needed a car so I leased this. Every time I fill it up I just smile $33 bucks. The 80 rules my weekends.

Lou

I have to agree with this. I bought a daily driver to put all the mileage on. LC gets only 5k miles per year, but they're quality 5k miles. Having a DD also makes me appreciate the LC more when I do get to drive it.

The jk a few years back was keeping its value better than any other vehicle. It still may be but I just haven't kept up on the press. I have been a long time jeep fan. Love Toyota also. They go after different markets.

The Cherokee was the last great in my book. Very reliable. Used the aw4 similar to that of the early 90's Toyota trucks and 4runners. And the 4.0. That has the back ground and production run that of the Toyota in-lines. I personally knew of several abused 300k plus cherokee's. But they are unibody and small. Never fit my exact needs.

Please note the Grand Cherokee is a different beast. Please don't confuse the two. It had to much dodge influence.

Mercedes G wagon has solid axles and triple locked. They even make a 6x6 that is 5x. There are several YouTube videos that make me want to go rob bank(s). To be able to put up the cash.

From what I understand jeep can't keep up with wrangler demand. Selling over 140k units a year, and no one will sell a vehicle in NA to compete? It would stand to reason Toyota would want a piece of the action.just make a modern 40 series and make us all happy.

With a diesel option please.

Scion FR-S... Lexus LFA....
fr-s is no Supra sir and the LFA I would say falls in the Super Car category as it costs over a 300k :). Bottom line is Toyota needs to get their s$it together.. Sent from my iPhone using IH8MUD

Whether or not you like the offering is one thing. Both are still sports cars. From my understanding Subaru supplied the boxer engine and Toyota did chassis development. Subaru was (or is?) building the Camry for Toyota in a US plant too.

The FR-S is a rebadged Subaru and the LFA sold all 500 produced with a list price of $375,000, not what I would call something marketed for the masses.

What are you looking for then? Toyota doesn't make muscle cars (I'm ok with that) so no Camero or Mustang types. You want something along the lines of an S2000 (which Honda doesn't make anymore) or a Nissan Z? And the FRS was a joint collaboration between the 2. But at any rate I don't think Toyota has a hard time selling cars. Until I bought my Honda (cheap commuter) I hadn't owned a non Toyota in almost 10 years. Even now were looking for a GX for road trips/family vehicle. But back to the topic of the thread. If my 80 died I would get either another or if Toyota would Reinvent the Classic 40 I'd go with that.

The FR-S is nothing comparable to Toyota's (not including LFA) only proven sports car the Supra. Could the FR-S stand a chance against any other foreign sports cars? Doubtful... Nissan GT-R? Nope.. Nissan Z? Nope.. BMW M series... Nope. Mercedes AMG? Still no.... Not even going to mention American sports cars... People that are Toyota fans are just wanting them to start producing vehicles that we know they can and have...

Correct.

Subaru does build the Camry at Subaru of Indiana Automotive in Lafayette. SIA is the first auto manufacturing plant to achieve zero landfill status. None of the plant’s manufacturing waste goes into a landfill, because all of it is recycled and reused.

Subaru and Toyota had some sort of deal. Subaru could only produce 1 BRZ for every 10 Scion FR-S for the first two years. Personally, I wish Toyota would have just called it the GT-86 like the rest of the world.

Yeah, because they really messed up this past year. Number 1 in worldwide sales and record profits. http://www.reuters.com/article/2013/10/28/us-global-autos-toyota-idUSBRE99R04K20131028
Riding the coat tails Mid and compact car sales due to high gas prices.. The article is correct not going to deny it but in my opinion they do not produce a vehicle I would buy new.. Now if they came out BACK on topic an SUV that could actually compete with Jeep then maybe or even if they came out with the Supra again..

Agreed. I had a FJC and it just didn't compare to the Fj62 I sold to buy it. Had to get Into another solid axle vehicle to feel at home again. However... That new Colorado with the diesel coming out in 2015 is tempting... But still won't be trading in LX for anything.

funny you say that I was at the Toyota dealership my wife was working at and checking out a 200 series. Salesman asked me should we work up a deal for you? I said no way I would never trade my LX450 for that lol. He had a puzzled look on his face...

Toyota will never ever build a vehicle with SFA in the front again for the US market. Not happening. They have moved on to other things like making a gazillion dollars every quarter.

They are, face it, not interested in folks like us anymore. They are willing to lose this market to gobble up every other market. They will let Jeep have the SUV enthusiast market.

The fact remains 99% of people on mud (including me) can't afford a new Land Cruiser. It's made to be that way folks. Toyota is not interested in supporting anymore people driving 20-40 yr old vehicles.

Just be happy we can get the parts we can currently.

I can't wait to revisit this topic in 10 years when 80 series parts really start drying up and gasoline hits $4-5 a gallon and none of us will be able to continue driving them anyway.

Enjoy this while it lasts. Because things are going to change rapidly in the next 10-15 yrs regarding automobile development, manufacture and sales.

True but a bit depressing. Enjoy while we can.
Maybe in 7 years switch to a 100 series?

I am keeping my baby as long as me lungs are filled with life. In the mid 1990's, I remember seeing this Forest Green FJZ80 at my daughter's school and dreaming of owning one someday. I finally got a chance in 2008 and have loved everything about it. Would have been nice to buy it brand new but loved it so much that I would never trade it or sell it. I'll probably buy another Land Cruiser - either a 40 or a 100 but me baby is stuck on me or me stuck on it. Got some tires the other day and one of the tire installer ask if I wanted to sell it. Nada.

Me Baby
