 I steel wooled some of my 80 wheels... looked great wet... but after it dried, tons of scratches.

Has anyone successfully buffed scratches out? What compound/tool did you use?

thanks

They are clear coated. correct or not?

Mothers power ball is kick ass!!!

Use a diluted mixture or Castrol Super Clean and water.

They are good and rough up for some paint now. Depending on how good of a job you did you may need to have a shop polish them and clear coat them again.

Steel wool works great for paint prep!

That does not sound good

I made a bigger mistake with steel wool once.....

I attempted to tear it in half with my bare hands. not the smartest thing I ever did...every finger was cut and bleeding.

My wheels are oxidized from the clear coat peeling off in a few spots. Salty roads will do that. I've thought about taking them to a wheel shop where they can turn the wheels on a lathe and then re-clear them. It looks soooooooo good when its done. Its darned expensive, though.

keep polishing your chrome wheels till you get all the chrome off--they will look better then

Chuckle... they are aluminum

Some wax did the trick... wax on wax off... the small steel wool marks came right out.

cheers!
