That's it for the 3 link mount on the diff? for something that's going to keep the axle from wrapping around under heaving braking that looks a bit scary...

they are decent mounts, the mounts on my cruiser were way weaker than these, and they survived the rubicon and a high speed rollover, dan at ruff stuff said these should be more than adequate

I am talking about the stock mounts on the axle tube. I can't see from the pics if you reinforced those, or just use the existing ones that were there.

Christo, It looks like he cut off the rear of the stock LCA mounts and welded Dan's Ruff Stuff brackets to the tube. However, he mounted the brackets so that the heims are in a horizontal orientation.

js93 - Did you increase the stock castor at all? I've always found that larger lifts benefit from a little more caster. Say ~4 - 4.5* rather than the stock ~ 2*

Howdy! Interesting job. Is it just my bifocals, or does it look like the LCA may contact the tierod under full compression? John

iirc there are people that said not to get the front if your truck is a DD.

You can have an aussie in the front. You just need to be a part time setup. Having an aussie in the front with full time 4WD is bad.

Nice work and turn around time!

I just asked about that in the death wobble post. :hhmm: I can't figure out why you would mount those lower links in that orientation.

Oopps, I did it again!

I Like the 3 link idea, Not sure about your geometry though? I have seen many 3 link set-ups but never quite like yours. No offense. There is a difference with what will work on the trail and what is safe and streetable... I would consult a pro fabricator about your link placement. Not saying your is right or wrong just never seen it setup this way... Mainly the placement of your lower links.

Here is another set-up, Looks close to yours.. Shawn Jackson's Toyota FJ80 Land Cruiser Page - 3-Link Completed Finally!

Good luck with the new setup, is this your DD? I have always tried to get a DD that could be used on the tarmac for a run down to the airport and simply turn off the motorway and climb a mountain! The problem is compromise and I have yet to see the the perfect setup that suits me. X2 on a roll cage.

regards

Dave

Man that was a quick turn around! It's like you're old vehicle came back from the dead...Roll cage ! Hopefully she stays rightside up for a little longer this time around ;)!

You guys should build a cage now. If i survived a rollover, i wouldnt even drive a car without one.

What would you do if you didn't survive a rollover?

i put the control arm mounts like that so the bolt couldnt come out! i still have tons of travel, and yes i am planning a cage for this one!

3-link + AWD + front automatic locker = ???

Post some trail shots, good luck with it.

Why? He has no flex in any bushing, that is a completely rigid setup. I'd personally reinforce the upper mount with a side brace, but you will get less axle wrap with a spherical ball joint setup than any rubber or poly bushing setup, because the latter can deflect and the former cannot.

Im not questioning the joint, you just agreed with me. I'm saying the mount on the upper control arm looks like it could use some gusseting....

i dont understand why everyone bashes a custom three link. is it because hes 21? or does anyone take into consideration hes been building trucks for the past 6 years and not just his own... all types of vehicles. the three link kicks the chit out of the lame radius arm setup that is so rigid the front doesnt even move... the joints on the axle side are mounted the way thay are do to space on the axle and still being able to remove the bolts. the chromoly joins have 35 degrees of travel not to mention the movement of the upper joint. he will NEVER max out the joints. Trussing will be added to the upper link mount but they have to be made do to the diff obviously being curved. the geometry of it is damn near perfect and links are as flat as can be. everyone understands that there are aftermarket link kits sold for other vehicles such as jeeps right? are the people that use after market link set ups on other rigs doing something wrong? should they some how make the stock stuff work?? j/w.... no need to bash being different and breaking out of the norm... because 80s are just now really becoming more popular you will start to see after market link set ups soon i promise... i know majority of posts on this thread are complimenting his work but this is for the nay sayers

that was my only concern from the beginning.

I don't have a problem with 3 links on vehicles that get wheeled only on hard trails. I wont add one to my truck because its also used as a desert rig, and a 3 link isn't the best idea for a heavy loaded truck traveling long distances.
