I don't remember if my F1.5 had domed or flat pistons but from this pic I think it had flat:

And yes that is not the correct head gasket but I couldn't find a good f1.5 specific head gasket anymore. Keep that in mind! Don't pull the head unless you absolutely have too!

This is not the original engine. Here is the block stamp: F-258321
With that number, looks like a late 60’s F, not “F.5” engine. Now I’m really curious to see a pic of the valvetrain…. How’s the oil getting up there?!

From pics earlier and in other threads, looks like he’s still got the oil fill tube in the block and no provision on the passenger side for oil filter, if I remember right. It very well could be the wrong head.

@MatthewMcD can you post a pic of the engine stamp pad? It’ll be on the passenger side of the block, pretty much right below the timing window. Should be a machined pad with numbers stamped in it.
Also, any pics when the valves were adjusted and the valve cover off?
The video I took after we adjusted the valves is here: I can't drive 55 - https://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/i-cant-drive-55.1347969/post-15666455

That is an F engine and circled is the oiler fitting. It looks like they may have mated the dome piston 2F head to the F block and used the F valvetrain to make the oiling work?

I wonder how many engine's it took to cobble this thing together! Did the head part number change from the F to the f1.5? My f1.5s head is also 60051

Another thing I thought of: did you ever check the fluid in the transmission/diff? I've seen oil turn into tar and I'd imagine that would take up quite a bit of horsepower at high speed.

I replaced the engine oil, front and rear differential, transmission, and transfer case back in November.

Amazing, I have not really ruled it out. I cannot remove the muffler without cutting it off because of the way they welded it on to the mount. I could disconnect it at the manifold and wire it up temporarily, but without back pressure is it worth risking HOA complaints for the test?
Maybe could loosen the manifold and vacuum the exhaust through from the back?

I have been hauling old vehicles home for over 50 years and as for rodent nests, I have seen some real marvels of engineering. Orange poly baling twine, burlap sacks, fishing line, you name it. All woven together. It's a long shot and probably not the case, but it happens, so I'm going with it. Pressing the 'other' button.
