Wow that is one burly unit!
Too bad the airport is on the outskirts of the city in Edmonton, it would be nice to see these units more often.

Look like Hearth Axles.

Inquired with Miller about pricing, over the phone for the pick up version with the fabricated pick up style box $55k +/- CDN, can't be liscenced for the road.....worth it?

Looked good - but lost me at spicer axles, throw that s*** in the garbage and reinstall the cruiser axles and it would be a good truck again.

Why would they change the axels from Toyota ones

If you followed the link, the explanation given was that they were using loader/planetary axles with integrated brakes on the inside as opposed to hot brake components in mine environments. I can see the logic in this.

I want to know what Miller is doing with the Cruiser axles they are taking out. There has to be some epic LC scrap yard up there for all of the conversions these guys do for mine trucks.

Sounds like a waste of time changing diffs just for brakes

Well, if the brakes make heat and the heat can cause explosions 2 miles underneath the earth, I think they will err on the side of caution and integrate the brakes into the gear box. Seems like a smart move.

Yea it's a possibility , I've never experienced any thing close to that underground about STD brakes on the cruisers causing dramas, i would load the back of the bomb ute (hzj79) full of explosives with out a worry, there is more of a chance of explosions lighting a ciggerette in a poor ventilated area I would think ,

so what the strength of these diffs compared to the trusty old cruiser diffs

last time i talked to Miller industries they wanted $9K for the take off axles.. for that price they can stuff them.

They dont convert all trucks, so they keep the axles and sell all the parts in pieces - alot of compamies still need diffs, brakes, axles etc etc. Its not like they just dump them for scrap. If you are resourceful you can find take offs cheaper.

they always tell you it can't be licensed for the road. They say its only a 2 speed plus reverse for underground. There is a 5 speed tranny in it, but they have the last 3 gears in it blocked off with a plate. Also the newer trucks won't survive a RIV inspection but the older ones don't need it.

mines can afford to pay 9k for axles and 100k for decked out cruisers. thats why miller, ens, etc get so much for parts. broke asses like us don't have deap enough pockets to play with these guys.
