if you fast foward to about 3:20ish in this vid you can see where I am at a dead stop. With no ram assist there would have been no way to turn at a stop with those tires at 6psi and locked in the front. Being able to turn like that with ram assist is worth its weight in gold. The first time I tried that little section it resulted in a leaky pump...

If your going to run a mini truck/toy pump you need to do this mod!

I run an IFS box on my mini with 38.5 SX's and the only way I could keep the pump from cavitating was to do this. I think a difrent ram would tune my setup a bit. The rare times I drive it on the pavement, I can over/under steer the rig a bit, but crawling it goes SWEET.

And another random Assist link from POR

you couldn’t pay me to touch a Toyota pump on hydro assist setup…

I issue in my case it's the Toy PS pump in my engine it's in a complicated place .. ( like in a 1FZ ) bottom righ side ahead my IP ..

But if you said my Toyy pump can handle .. :frown:

I should clarify that you couldn't pay me to use a stock toyota pump. I have friends that run high performance PSC replacement toyota pumps on their trucks with decent success, but before they changed up pumps they had a hell of a time turning.

Ok .. i get it ..

Betwwen take a risk with the factory toy pump with a hydro assist and keep it as is ( hard turning and no PS when I use the front ARB + chains ) what do you do . ?

Mos def put assist on, you can always upgrade to a better pump if you find it needed

I would try to fit a sag pump, but that just me

I want to put a sag pump and a ram on mine, i think for the time being im just gonna sleeve the stock tie rod and see if anything breaks.

The stock PS pump just isnt cutting it for me in the rocks. I wonder, would it be preferable to have ram assist with a undersized pump (ie OEM) or no ram at all? Does anyone make or have a writeup of their saginaw pump bracket for a 3fe?

No assist = good steering on the street, tough turning in rocks
Assist/stock pump = sluggish street steering, decent turning in rocks.

With the Sag pump, you can mod it slightly to speed up the output for the ram which will give you stock feeling street manners but will also give you good assist in the rocks.

How is a full PSC ram assist setup on the street? Does the pump give adequate pressure and volume to keep it from being sluggish?

Jeremy

Hydro assist does not have to be sluggish on the street. It is a matter of designing the system to behave hte way you want it to..

Not tough actually.

Hi!

I read somewhere that you loose the self-rightening? If this is true I would hate it!?

not true
