i havent tried it yet, have to setup the techstream etc on a spare laptop

Installing it right now. initially i had to go and install Visual C++ because it wasn't installed on the laptop i'm using. got that done and now install the virtual box and and some pop-up dialog regarding python etc hopefully it'll go smoothly. Seems like a lot to install because it's taken close to 10 mins now.

So I've had a mostly successful experience in using the Techstream XP Virtual Machine (Ver 12.20.024), I'm using this Mini VCI which is firmware version 1.4.1, the only thing I can't access is the "Engine and ECT" which is a shame as this one seems pretty important.

Everything else works like AHC, body control etc.

I figured out what went wrong and it's working now.

My install was based on the instructions on VXDIAG. A few things that I've changed from previous install:

1. Plugged in the dongle before running VX manager. Make sure you see the dongle in the VX manager app.

2. Do NOT open Techstream using the the real Techstream icon that was created on your desktop. You have to go to the BIN folder and use the Toyota Launcher application, it will automatically bring up Techstream. By doing it this way, Techstream no longer ask for the Key. I created a shortcut to put on my desktop so I will not need to dig through the folders to find the Toyota Launcher next time.

3. After Techstream is loaded, go to Setup>VIM Select> open the dropdown and choose TOYOTA-J2534. This is something that's not listed in the instruction but it's super important because the default is TIS Techstream VIM. If you don't choose TOYTO-J2543, your dongle will not talk to your Techstream.

4. I have a press button start car. Press the start button on the car twice. Connect your car to the dongle. Click connect to vehicle in Techstream and you should see your car's information automatically populated.

Our next door helpful computer programmer lecturer kindly put all the Techstream data on a samsung win7 laptop our electrician son gave me. The 16 pin type 18......... diagnostic adaptor came from Aliexpress £18. I was able to delete ECU fault codes after taking a photo of the screen. This box has now come up asking to register so Scott from Tulsa area says he'll have a look at it for me & I'll give him your post & hope he gets it right.
I need to input the new set injector codes and the injector pump apparently. Our 4x4 is Toyota 2002 land cruiser 1KD ftv diesel. Thanks a million.

@anotero looks like the dongle doesnt work. I guess the cable to keyed/locked into the unitronics software? maybe you can give it shot and see if it works for you

When running TS, be sure to turn off Wifi adapter so you arent connected to the internet.

Getting Techstream up and running can be a bit of a pain. Hopefully this helps someone get started quickly.

Step 1: Purchase an OBD-II / Mini-VCI interface.
- I have sold out of my cables and supply chains are back in order, so no reason to purchase more. Anything like this will work: Mini-VCI cable on eBay

Step 2: Download Hypervisor

• Windows / Intel Mac [Download Virtualbox]

Step 3: Install Software You Just Downloaded

• Windows: Double-Click downloaded file

  • M1/M2 Mac: Double-Click downloaded file, drag to Applications folder

Step 4: Download TechStream Image:
- Windows / Intel Mac: LINK

Step 5: Double-Click downloaded file.

Hi Getco, Thanks so much for that fabulous tech stream workaround, I have it up n running on my MacBook Pro no issues... except one.

I am in Australia, and my LC200 is a 4.5 litre v8 diesel, the 1vd-ftv motor, which is what most of us have over here (diesel is huge in Australia). To use tech stream I need to set location to "other" to access the global tech stream version, which is part of the package you setup.

Trouble is the global version says the registration has expired... not sure why. I can get the US version working no problem, but that's the 3ur-fe petrol motor (I think that's the code), and it offers no other options.
Any thoughts on how I might get a patched global version of tech stream into the VB system?

I want to sell my Mac that I downloaded this on so I am attempting to download on Windows. However, during the installation it says I need install the python core bindings and windows 32 api bindings before or after installation. What do I need to do?

I can't get mine to connect with the cable anymore. I've tried everything I can think of but what am I missing? Also, during my recent install, the windows program on my mac is showing up in very very small font, I can barely read anything. Please help.

I tried following the instruction in the first post, but they don't seem to work anymore. Whenever I start the Virtual Box, it just says "Aborted" and I don't know why.

Hi guys, I have read through a fair chunk of the thread and firstly wanted to say thank you!

I am having an odd issue though. I can only start the VM in safe mode.

I am running it on a dell win11 laptop and have enabled all virtualisation settings in the eufi BIOS on the host. I had to install VS sudio redistributable and python etc all went well. Even in safe mode I was able to go into the VM as administrator and was able to test the cable connection fine, I just cant get the damn thing to boot up in normal Windows

Anyone able to help here? I have tried to find an error in Virtual box, but couldn't see anything that jumped out (like the virtualization settings issue posted a couple of pages back.)


EDIT# I got it to work after deep diving on the virtualization layer in Windows. Ended up having to download the DG_Readiness tool and had to run it in powershell by navigating to the directory (within PS) and running the command ./DG_Readiness_Tool_v3.6 -Disable -AutoReboot once I did that I was greeted with a couple of screens after BIOS I disabled everything.
