How to run 38's

Lift height doesn't matter man, the tire only rubs when compressed so with a 2" bump ext, the tire is gonna bottom out with a 5-6" lift the same as it would with 2-3" lift. The arms are a must to keep the front tire out of the back edge of the wheel well.

Think of it this way. A truck fitted with all the slee 6" stuff bottoms out a tire and doesn't rub, he completely removes that spring....is the tire going to bottom out at a different place?

Yes I understand that I just figured with out any additional lift it would be very close to total stuff and not very functional.

I checked into the Slee arms and they run about $1k so that is NOT and option....how much would I have to trim off the wheel well to keep it from rubbing?

BooKiller (who I bought my OEM medium kit from) was going with the 6" Slee and 37's I think. He thought with the cutting he did he could run it without rubbing much.

I know with that cutting he could still get his 36's to rub on the OEM medium.

Yeah but rubbing where? If he didn't have longer bump stops it would still rub at the top even with that trimmed.

I believe it was the back of the wheel well. (Back as in front to back of the truck, not back as in closest to the engine.)

The Aussie company on here has a thing that pushes the frame end control arm mount forward 1", good enough to keep the tire out of the body. Or you could look at used Gen 2 arms (I'll have mine for sale sometime soon too). Basically you need to push the axle forward to keep things lined up so your front tire doesnt eat into the cab when you try to turn.

Cool! PM me with a price on those Gen 2's

Well I just found a set of the 11.00r16's for $350 so I may try them just for now....I'm sure I can sell them for that if I don't like'um.

I have been reading other post about those tires from people here in the west and everyone seems to like'um, "especialy on rocks" they said:eek:!!! It's alot different out here on DRY ROCKS than those slimy eastern rocks;p! I've wheeled in Tellico for yrs and I can deffinately see how they wouldn't work well there!

I guess with that sand paper traction rock you could get those things to grip pretty well out there, but I would still cut them up as much as possible.

I dont have the slee arms yet so did some sheetmetal work to clear the tires at full stuff ill have to get some pics

:whoops: My bad....the tires I'm getting are just like these in the pics...the XML 325/85/16's not the XL 11.00r16.

Same 38.7" tall but about an inch or so wider!

I think they will actually be 2 inches wider. The XML's are 13" and the XL is almost 11" wide. Same height, like you said. The thing with these military michelin's is they actually sit and measure 38.7" with the LC weight. That's because they are rated so high (weight wise) as opposed to Super Swampers.

I really want to find the XZL which is the same size as the XL but with more of a traditional mud terrain pattern, and a sick sidewall. Very rare in the U.S. but I saw some on Ebay a while back. He wanted over $1200 for them and the rims he had.

I'm going in the morning to check out what this guy has!

I will post up the results tomorrow!

Well I got my 325/85r16 XML's today!

There are lots more were mine came from but they have some flat spots, cuts and uneven wearing but still alot of tread on them. If any one wants a set post up and I will give a link to his info.

Get a hot-knife and at the very least, sipe the hell outa them. Regrooving them to the max depth, even with brand new tread already, seems to be the easiest way to get more grab out of them. Those hook up in the rocks better than my XLs do, but they are still too stiff and the tread blocks are actual blocks.
