I'm taking my dash apart to run a new antenna wire (installing the dual cb / fm radio kit) but I'm having trouble removing the dash pannel to get at my stereo.

I've got all the connectors disconnected except for the hand throttle. It's been a while since I installed it, but I seem to recall that the knob presses on and there is a tab, barb, or some such item to keep it from coming back off.

Has anyone disconnected the hand throttle before? Is there a quick and easy way to take the knob off, or do you need to figure out how to disconnect it at the gas pedal side (which didn't look promising)?

My Google Fu has failed me in my quest for an answer, so I seek the wisdome of the Great Mud Master Community to guide me on my path.

I went through the same thing when I wanted to remove mine so I took some pictures. There is a hole on the knob and a little retainer clip on the cable. You just need to compress the retainer and pull the knob off.

Nice little flat screwdriver blade pushed into slot and gently pull off.
See photo above, barb on RT side in pic with pliers.

Thank You Tom and Squash!!!

Just got home from a day out with the wife and saw your posts. Quick trip to the driveway with a headlamp and a small screwdriver and I'm back in business for working on this project tomorrow morning.

If you find yourselves in the East Bay, I owe you a beer.

Had the same problem last year when I pulled my dash. Still haven't installed the knob because I want to take it apart again and was worried about getting if off one more time. I remember even knowing what to do, it was still hard to get it off.

yea I also need the dash side retaining nut @beno

My fear is you have to buy the whole works if you want it from Toyota.

I checked some auto and body shops, lots of options but not the right one.

Tried some google-foo too, words such as knob retainer clip knob retention clip etc.

I noticed that my hand throttle will not lock in anymore to hold the RPM's.....what part do I need to fix it or do I need a new hand throttle??....need to get this fixed so I can keep the RPM's up for compressor when filling up tires...

Or is this the part I need that locks the throttle on?
