Fwiw, you can use the stock wastegate and a boost controller. The compressor cover and wastegate bracket needs to be modified slightly, but the setup works well.

If you have your HDT compressor cover machined the fit the supra wheel, there is no mods necessary.

I'll have to have a crack with the waste gate actuator that was already on there first, it's a tight fit so might over boost but will just have to see what happens :D fortunately the 7m I have was already being used on a 1hz so the waste gate actuator has been modified to fit, just changing the exhaust housing has put it out by a bit, have added pics below of the turbo and the exhaust housings which I swapped (larger one from the 7m removed and the smaller from a 1hdt which is going to be attached)

One of the issues I ran into was that the actuator rod was much too short, and got shorter as I had to increase the angle of the bends for it to fit past the turbine housing. You can also see how much die grinding was required to slot the 3 holes for the actuator.

Had it out today, stripped it down and applied grease to everything and re-assembled, then made an extension for the rod out of aluminium.

Now to go test it out.

Hey mate. Great detailed write up on the install
Quick question, I’m half way through installing one myself and was wondering where/how you secured the turbo support bracket to the block? Did you use the 1hdt bracket or use your own?
Thanks heaps

I never did, the support bracket is still sitting in a spare parts box. I believe people have used a right angle drill to drill out the bosses on the block. You could fabricate something to bolt on elsewhere.

Yeah I was thinking of tapping a thread into the block. Just not sure how deep is is. Any idea st all?

I have no idea on the depth of the holes on a 1hd block, you could go into Toyota and order the bolts to get the required depth.

hello
i am very interested to change my 1HZJ105 install turbo , supply oil and exhaust photo did you have it

i reopen this post, where did you find the m16x200 union for water outlet ?

Sorry for the late reply, I haven’t been on mud heaps this year. That fitting was an Aeroflow fitting, you should be able to get it or an equivalent on there online shop or a performance auto shop.

temp sensor move to where
The temp sensor I removed was a safety shutoff for the AC if you are overheating, the temp sensor for the instruments is located towards the rear of the block down low.
As for the oil outlet I’m afraid I don’t have this cruiser anywhere near me to take extra photos, my daughter has it as her farm truck.

Once you have removed the exhaust manifold and intake pipe work you have access to the water bypass pipe, remove the hoses and P clip, then use a pry bar to lift the pipe out of the top of the thermostat housing. The 1hd-t pipe presses in exactly the same as the 1hz pipe.

I haven't installed the coolant crossover pipe yet as it requires pulling the timing cover and belt etc. I will do that on the next timing belt/ water pump replacement. Instead I just ran hose through to the water inlet on the head and into where a redundant sensor was. I'm not happy with the big loop of hose though so I'm going to tap into the bottom of the housing like a 1hd and install an elbow.

How is this water pipe installed/sealed? Solder/braised?

It’s a bit odd but it’s just a compression fit. I tapped it in with a soft face hammer. No sealant needed, just make sure the surfaces are clean.

I saw you tapped return on to temp sensor..... is there another soft plug that's removed for part# 16278-17010 water pipe bypass?

Hi Serenity,

Digging up an old post here but I'm replacing the water bypass pipe as well on a 1HD-FT. When you pressed it back in, did you need to do anything special? Any specific tool needed? It's not listed in my FSM. Thanks in advance!

Lube the O-ring with dish washing liquid, and clean any crusty corrosion away before pushing it in
