Was wondering b/c some say the 285 is a 32 while others say it is a 33 and is the 305 MTR any wider? much help appreciated

You may need to go to each companies web site and see what they write up as the height. But I know that the MT/R not on the truck measures around 32.7 inches. where mounted on truck it will measure less than 31.5.
Both of these tires are close to 33 if you do the math. Now look at the Manufactures web site to see what they will say. Yes some companies will say they are closer to 32, while some may say 33. Clear as mud. of course it does depend on if you measure off the rim, on the rim or on the truck setting on the floor with different pressures in the tire. later robbie

The main reason I am going with 34" Truxus MTs is that swampers are usually larger than what they spec at the manufacturer. This allows my tire to be closer to 34 inches on the road and aired down be closer to 33 inches and provide more clearance and less rubbage (even though I don't think I will have any problems).

is the 305/70 MTR wider than the 285/75 BFG AT

and if so is it noticable? i was hoping it is cause they are gonna be my next tires but i was hoping they would be alittle taller than the bfg's

All depends on the tire but theres not enough difference to amount to anything, visual or otherwise.

The first number indicates the width, so 305mm - 285mm= 20mm difference in width

I am trying to figure out the over all heights on the BFG AT's I can make no sense of tirerack's spects tire chart. I thought the second number i.e. 70 or 75 indicates the height. But when I look at their chart (75) can mean 31.7, 32.9 or 34.7, WTF? Any one know what a 295x75x16 BFG KO AT on a stock 94 LC rim will measure out too? Height and width, please, anyone running this combo?

The second number is the height of the sidewall expressed in terms of a percentage of the tire width.

So if I get this straight 295x75= 221.25mm, 221.25 millimeters = 8.71 inches x2 = 17.42 + 16 inch rim = 33.42 inches. I know the manufactures real height is different but I am try to wrap my brain around this whole metric tire thing. What a PITA, if I didn't like the stock rims so much I would saw c-ya to this whole 16-inch rim thing and go with some 17s.
