How many miles are you getting out of a full tank? (1 Viewer)

Not enough.

The suspense was killing me so I filled up. Slightly over 1/4 tank on the gauge truck took 16.7 gallons, went exactly 140 miles (Sams premium @ 3.19 9/10 per JEEEEEZUS H. C.! (slightly topped up) which equals an atrocious 8.3832335329341317365269461077844.

WTF? Newly machined head & valvejob, new OEM plugs, cap rotor, wires, fuel filter etc. I have a heavy foot but not that heavy & on top of it this is a 70-30 mix of freeway driving with freeway being the 70.

GEEEEEEEEEZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ

On the bright side the truck runs great and I have fallen back in love with it. Mileage be damned (although I'd like more)

I am going to try to drive like an old woman on this tank to see if there is a change.

Wish me luck. It is going to be hard.

My wifes LX 450 was getting around 11. I checked the air system to see if there were any leaks and sure enough the clamps on the air intake were totally loose. Now its at about 15 - 16 MPG around town.

My 96 is the same as this as well 15 - 16

280 almost every time..

I get 300 to 360 depending on if there is a tailwind and how brave I am to chance the low level light. Typical mileage is 17 with best of 19 and worst of 12. The best was flat road at low elevation and the worst was hauling a trailer over the continental divide.

what is the miles per gallon on the average for the FJ80??

About 310 miles when light comes on. Usually go a little more after that so... whith around 320miles on it I'll take about 22 gallons to fill.

Not bad for a 4x4, that's about the same mileage my wife gets on her Caravan, It cost about 45.00 every trip to the pump.

before i put all my audio stuff in the car and what not, i was getting around 325 to the light, now i get around 275-300. This is all in town, i get worse on highway but I can be pedal heavy. I'm afraid to put gear on the truck, gas mileage v and gas prices ^

Hmmmmm. My Wife and I both drive White Land Cruisers with 32" BFG All Terrain TA's. My wifes Cruiser is the '93, it feels like it has about 50 more horse power than mine and gets 250 miles per tank.

Mine is a '95 and gets about 270-280 miles per tank. The funny thing is that both trucks have about the same mileage at around 280K, run the same Mobile 1 Synth oil, both have roof racks, mine has a spoiler, hers doesn't. Mine is locked and hers isn't. Both have new Toyota plug wires and plugs and dist caps, rotors button etc. but her truck is faster and has more power, and mine gets better mileage. Maybe I should check the timing and see if hers is advanced.

On a road trip from MN to UT and back I got between 11.4 and 17.2 mpg. I never saw the gas light though. Overall average was about 14.7 mpg. Stock but loaded down (saggy rear end) and Confer port hole rack the whole way.
(The 11.2 was on about 100 miles of off-road in and out of the Maze District).

I have 3 friends that each have driven my truck and they all think it is snappier and more powerful than thiers. 1 has a 97LX450, 1 has a 97 40th and the other has a 96.

Maybe the PAIR valve adds HP???

I have been getting around 273 miles per tank. When I fill the tank it usualy takes around 23 gal. This is mixed driving about half is to work and back on the freeway

I'm saying goodbye to Utah tomorrow and making the drive back to Medford, OR. It's been 4 years in the making but I am finally leaving. I expect to get 320-340 miles per tank heading west on I-80 and hopefully only need three tanks to make the whole trip. I budgeted $250 for gas and incidentals along the way. I think I was fairly conservative.

In town I have been regularly able to get 280-300 miles on the tank before filling up. I started driving like a granny after I was getting less than 120 miles/tank about a year and a half ago. It turned out the intake hose had a crack the entire length of the hose. The truck was struggling to keep up and running VERY rich. After I fixed it I would get ~200-220/tank. Lightening my foot has made a big difference in the weight of my wallet.

I'll soon be back in Jefferson. Wish me luck...

I was just wondering how I had not recalled seeing you post very much lately.

Good luck with the move (back?) to Oregon and beyond!

Is everyone talking about an 80 or Rav4? I amazed at what MPG some of your rigs are getting I usually get no more than 160-180 a tank around town I saw 220 once with all highway driving. my rig is without armor OME heavy lift and 285's at basically sea level. The head was redone this past summer (vales ground and adjusted) cleaned the throttle body, no intake leaks, no CEL's, new cap, wires, rotor, plugs, O2 sensors, RC Engineering cleaned the injectors, and add Slee's spedo correction gear. I must say that it has never run better but I still can't figure out why I can't break 200 around town! Any ideas on tune-up items I missed?

What the hell am I doing wrong? My truck is almost completely stock, and Im lucky to hit 220 on a tank, and thats with alot of highway driving, and I dont drive aggressively. Only mods are my 305's :/

Would throwing a code due to insufficient flow on the EGR cause lower fuel efficiency?

These " how many miles per tank" threads are kind of useless. One person drives until the light turns on, their rig may have 5 gallons left, another person drives until their light turns on, which means they only have 3.5 gallons left (the gauges/lights are not highly calibrated), another person drive 50 miles after their light turns on, another person fills their tank when they think they are getting close to the light turning on... In other words, a "tank" could be anywhere from 18-25 gallons. The only objective way to compare is by using MPG (or Liters per 100 kilometers, or whatever the metric equivalent is).
I just got 12.8mpg, with a little bit of freeway mixed with mostly in town driving.
