How many miles are you getting out of a full tank? (1 Viewer)

When I drove my 97 LX450 back to CT after purchasing it in WV, on the 450 mile trip I got 16.5 MPG. I went 307 miles on the first tank before filling with 18.5 gallons to full. Truck is bone stock.

I have been pleasantly suprised with the gas mileage so far.

:frown:I get between 9 and 10 mpg, with my best tank at 13.

It's cheaper for me to load my cruiser on my trailer and tow it where ever I go instead of driving it!

These " how many miles per tank" threads are kind of useless.

Agreed. Get a ScanGuage, and all your questions will be answered.

I get about 15 on highway trips. Sometimes better, but sometimes worse - one factor people don't calculate is wind. A head wind will cost 1-2 mpg easily and you may not be aware you're pushing through it. Also the subtleness of slope is a huge factor. Spilling off the eastern slope of the Appalachians or Rockies is a huge advantage, conversely approaching a continental range is a slow but steady load on mpg. In the last 4 months I've driven Maine-Florida, Maine to Ohio, Maine to the Outer Banks - 15 mpg is a fair assessment for me over those 10,000 miles.

Agreed lots a variables. Plus some may not be factoring in tire size which is throughing off their odometer. Any way I am running 305's with the correction gear. Light usually comes on around 300 miles and I have drove a max around 330 with the standard tank. i consistently get 15-16mpg haulin ass up and down mountains passes. These numbers are probably 80-90% highway but they drop off significantly in town. I had a huge problem with this coming from a 70 series (450 miles or so per tank) but that will no longer be an issue soon...;)

On average, I get around 220 miles out of about 22 gallons. Do the math. :flipoff2:

I once ran it 50 miles AFTER the light turned on. Got a whopping 260 miles with 24.5 gallons:eek::eek:, which ended up to be about 10.5 MPG.

EDIT: Almost forgot: stock tires, no lift, 4 big lights on top.

I used to get 300 miles easily and up to 350 if I wanted to see the red light.....

Now I get around 250 miles....after replacing the fan clutch, radiator, thermostat, belts, etc...

Fan clutch moves a ton more air....so I am assuming it is the drag of the fan that has cost me mileage.

i too had the same change after a fan clutch install :(

This kind of thread will eventually lead to post traumatic stress disorder...
Just to add to the cacophony, my best so far is 320 miles on a tank hwy, stock but somewhat loaded with wife, kid and camping cräp.

15 to 17mpg consistent. Typically drive 320 to 360miles between fills during interstate driving .

97 LC40th with cup holder mod;), 176kmi.

I attribute the good mileage to extreme neglect.

all i know is my rig is one thirsty pig.... at least she only takes 87. i have yet to do a long road trip to gauge some actual highway mpg, but around town it seems i'm getting 12-14. about 280 on a fill up of 20 gallons.

i too had the same change after a fan clutch install :(

When my rig was new (to me- it had 32k mi. on it) I was getting 320mi. or so per tank. Now, after 5 years, 68k. mi. more, new cap/rotor/belts/radiator/plugs/wires/pcv/fuel filter/modded fan clutch, 33" Revos w/ correction gear, ARB winch bumper (w/o winch), OME 850/860, removed roof rack, I get around 230-240 before I see the light. That is a huge decrease. I noticed I got a big decrease after I added the modded fan clutch- went from around 260-270 to 230-240 mi. per tank of gas, and I can definitely feel the power drain. On the other hand, my temps are a lot more stable at 186-190F 95% of the time.

Live4Skim- you mentioned seeing an MPG decrease after adding your stereo equipment. What kind of stereo equipment are we talking about? Enough to cause a serious drain on your charging system? I've added a few pieces of gear, and I'm beginning to wonder how much of an effect that has had.

2100 ft elevation, 2.5" lift, 33 Goodyear MT/Rs, rear storage box, ARB front, Hanna Sliders, about 220-240 when the light comes on. 210 when I've done more street driving.

This 250+ is surprising, the 300+ answers are unbelievable!

Agree a 'per tank' thread like this is about as next to useless as I can think of to compare economy. Fill your tank a gallon later than someone else does and boom - you're thinking you have a problem. The only way to discuss this issue is with properly calculated fuel economy. When new, my truck got 16-17 on the freeway, now it gets 15-16. Cdan has a complete accurate FE measurement over his truck's entire life, I believe.

Good point, Doug. When my truck had 32k. mi on it and was stock, it was getting around 15-16MPG highway. Now (with mods listed above in prev. post) it gets around 12-13MPG highway.

I can get 320 out of mine - but I'm never able to fill more than 19.9gal or so. I've done a 155 mile tank filling 19 gallons before.

My average over a year and a half (17000 miles) is 13.15mpg.

I'd imagine the majority of gas mileage depends on driving habits. Since I lifted/33'd I've gotten better gas mileage overall, but that's just because I've been very easy on the truck.

I live around 300 ft. above sea level.
Mostly freeway driving I am getting about 250miles till the light turns on.
I dont let it go much further then that.
With Cruise Control on I can get a few more miles then letting my foot work the fuel.
Other then that it sucks in the MPG.
My buddy put a cummins diesel 4 cyl in his 80 and is getting around 22MPG.
:flipoff2:

I gust got back from a 700 mile round trip towing plus gear 310 miles per tank on the cheap stuff.

Usually between 300 and 320 for me. all stock

I get 220 miles for every 16/17 gallons (to the quarter) of gas. Right around 13.5/14mpg, mostly city driving. Probably get around 15mpg on the the highway. For those getting 300+, kudos to you. Mind sharing the secret??? Diesel? Gutted? Do you get out and push sometimes? Combo of all three?
