Jw how many are still out there. I own one myself, 62 parts are sparse compared to other cruiser models. There might b a thread out there on this already sorry I'm new here. Anyways just curious.

New here as well, and acquired a 88' FJ62 about a month ago. Looking for 'brakes' upgrade input. :)

I had my '89 FJ62 running until recently - it's slowly being swapped over to my rust-free '86 FJ60 body and frame (almost everything is moving over). So one less FJ62 now. Of course there will be one more FJ60 on the road soon - it hasn't been on the road since 1994 or so.

This came up in another thread yesterday to which one of the guys stated that only 17k FJ62s were ever brought into the US and sold. By now with the Obama Cash for Clunkers program, the prevalent tranny A440 issues that can plague these cruisers if not well maintained and other such items there is probably considerably less still available. I know of three in my town personally, one of which is currently in a state of flux and being worked on. The other two are heavily modified. I bet there is probably less than half as many were brought in still left on the road.

But value is in the eye of the consumer - A great condition FJ60 series can be had for 15K usually with a repaint that is decent. I have been searching for a 66-77 ford bronco (for wife don't ask). These run about 25K for decent unpainted and unmolested model.

Very true. But with the limited production years of the 62 and the limited number they become harder to find. I think many people do not like the "feel" of the 62 when comparing to the 60 (without previous knowledge of either) because they are normally not well taken care of so things like the electric windows don't all work, the tranny shifts funky, it doesn't have a lot of power going up hills at freeway speeds, etc. so they see those as big $$$$ investments to fix and/or correct which turns them off to them. If they only knew.

Oh and I understand about the bronco, my riding buddy wants one as well. There is actually one not far from my house that has been sitting in the persons driveway, flat tires and all for as long as my wife and I have lived here (so at least 8yrs) and every time we ride by he says he is going to walk up and knock on the door to offer them cash for it period. It is in very good shape for what it is and COMPLETELY stock.

Mine is also a 12/89 "1990" 62. It only has 100k on the odometer but I'm tempted get a jump on some restoration work just because it's only going to get harder and more expensive as time goes on.

There's two in Weatherford, Texas. One just happens to be mine:)

I still drive mine but living in eastern canada that uses salt to clear the roads in winter, its only a matter of time when the rust will win. I'm trying to keep ahead of it but its starting to be a losing battle.

Looks like there are about 20 or so for sale currently on Autotrader, around 8 on Cars.com and usually around 5 posted on Ebay at any one time. Gives you a bit of a sense of the inventory out there.

One here, my son just drove it to high school.

Based on some previous threads about VIN #s....mine appears to be one the "youngest" 62s around. 1990, built in 12/89.
What is the VIN? Would be interesting to know what's what, as mine is an '88 FJ62.

A number of years ago I was able to pick up my rust-free '86 FJ60, complete but with a thrown rod, for $1,200 and my '89 FJ62, well running but with some body damage, for $1,500. I went in knowing full well the possibilities of combining the two vehicles, in large part inspired by @Godwin and his FJ60 3FE install article in Four Wheeler magazine. Additional inspiration came from "testimonials" here on MUD regarding the performance of the 3FE mated to the H55f. I finally undertook the project earlier this year and have added some more scope to the build based on the wealth of information here on MUD, including the power door lock and power window modifications and the 4-Runner wiper upgrades. I just need to wrap things up before the snow flies here in the mountains.

I need info on the '4runner' wiper upgrade, if possible. :)
