How long did it take to find your 100?

Took 6+ months if counting the passive search. We were constrained in a way by budget so had to go higher miles. Found a private party '06 Galactic Gray LX, 121k miles in Durango. Love this color but we were open to whatever, right price and distance sold it on this one.

I have been told by several that is the best color to have ;)

About 4-5 months. I set some parameters - filed under "have to have" and "nice to have".
Have to have:
- '06 or '07
- Under 75,000 miles (this was 3 years ago)
- No ACH
- Certified (again, this was 3 years ago)

Nice to have:
- Under 50,000 miles
- Local
- Thunder Cloud or Black

I found a 2006 with 39,000 miles 15 miles from my house. It was a color I'd never seen or heard of - Garnet Pearl Metallic. Figured I'd go see it anyway.

I saw that color. It became my favorite 100 color... and, I drove it home

The punch line: When buying a used car - especially a rare used car, really question your "have to haves". Color is typically the one to go. I don't think there was a bad color on the 100. The longer your "have to have" list, the longer the hunt.

3 weeks.

I had a VW 05 Touareg V8, fully loaded, bought it with 20K mi. Drove it for many years. In Jan. 2014, it need a lot of maintenance: Timing belt, water pump, tires, wheel bearing and full brake job. To top it off, I had not driven it for a week as it was nice out. It snowed about 10" over night, decided to drive the truck and leave the Audi in the garage...well it was dead as a door nail. We I plowed most of our street as the Audi was very very low. put truck on trickle charger. Got home, still dead. bought new battery. This truck toss every fault code it possible could, took it to ASW for diagnosis. short story, needed lots more work, ABS/Airbag/Diff Loc modules all showing faults. Decision was made to walk away from the truck.

Initially I wanted to replace it a brand new Touareg. Very, very nice trucks, but could not swallow a $65K entry fee for the one we wanted. We also were in process of buying vacation property so we decided to look at used.......and there she was...a 02 LC white on grey w/ 160K mi. very very clean.. Test drove it, loved it, was hard not to walk away with it that day, but knew I needed to do some homework before jumping both feet in. We set off the a local brewery, Big Choice Brewery in Broomfield....to my surprise there was a Rising Sun 4x4 holiday party going on. The owner of the brewery Nathanial, I knew was a cruiser guy, he told me to talk to Tim, owner of Gamiviti, told him about the one we just drove, talked shop for a bit and I was convinced to look for a 03 or newer for the 5spd. The search was on.

Over the course of 3 week I test drove (4) LC's and (2) LX's, one was a neglected POS, others good to clean trucks and one was a creampuff, low mi, garage queen (05, gree, tan, 48K mi. ACH. So that Sat. we set off with the family to trade in the truck on the cream puff and see if we could make a deal. When we arrived and spoke to the sales guy we did the initial test drive, he said the truck was out on a drive. We waited, but all for none, it was in process of being purchased. Told him to call once it was finalized or available. We head to next stealerhip for option 2, sold, dammit. called dealership of 3rd we considered and it has been sold. We were bummed, starving and thirsty. We head out for an early dinner. I search Cl, autotrader etc.... and I found one, seemingly clean etc. Call the stealership, its there and available. Asked for it to be set aside and we were enroute to see it. Sales guy did just that. We arrived, drove it, loved it, made a deal and took her home. She's a Black 04, loaded, non-ACH, LC with 155K mi, all service records etc. from AZ. Shortly after purchase the mod bug nite hard and well, it's been a fun build over the last 11mos.

I found mine on Autotrader pretty quickly..like 3 days. Found it with 125k. Had to drive to Dallas though. I really like that grey color too...I have black and have no regrets but best of luck on finding the grey.

Yah, that's a fantastic photo!

Took us just short of a year. 5 months casually and 6 months of serious looking.
Our list: 1999 or 2001 LC
River Rock Green Metallic(charcoal grey)
no navigation
Under 100k
1 owner, clean and well maintained
Could not overspend

I was ready to pull the trigger and buy a few times but my wife stayed strong and said she had to have the dark grey.
I looked almost every night on craigslist and auto trader and cars.com and mud and every where else. Finally found exactly what we wanted except the miles were 108,000. But this thing was sweet in every other way. Garage queen, more than 20 service records from the dealer and several others as well. We even got some things that we really like that weren't on the must have list that are nice, like no fake wood paneling.

Got it all for $15,000. Flew to San Jose to buy it and drove 600+ miles bad home the same day :)

They are nice rigs and worth the wait to get what you want.

I got lucky. I looked for almost a month. Found my 2006 with 86k miles, one owner, and serviced every 5k miles at Toyota. Looked new inside and out.

I was surfing cars.com and autotrader for about 3 months. Finally went to a dealer, after too much private party bull**** (not returning emails or phone calls, playing games....)

My friend bought a 2004 land cruiser for his wife at a dealership in 2010 with 79,000 miles for $27,000. 9 months and 7,000 miles later, he found out he couldn't afford it. At all. Desperate to sell. Took it back to the dealer he bought it from where they offered him $18,000 for it WITH his aftermarket rims and tires. I asked "are you really gonna take $18,000 for it?"

He said "I have to."

I said "throw the stock rims and tires back on and sell it to me for $18,000 instead."

DEAL!

He took his rims/tires and sold em on craigslist for a couple thousand more. So I think we both won. But especially me. I didn't even know I wanted a land cruiser until this one fell in my lap. Now I'm obsessed with them.

Got my wifes 2005 lexus from my mother in January of this year...fell in love with the 100. Started searching for my LC in August of this year and after about 3 weeks (and 3 Thundercloud low mileage ones slipping through my fingers) I found one at a Toyota dealership in Michigan. 1 owner, no accidents, all service records, being sold by the same dealer that sold it in 2004. I got some pics from the dealer and put a deposit on it that day. Flew up to MI, it was in really good shape, bought it, and drove it 650 miles home that day. Been loving it ever since. Now my garage has 2 100's in it and I couldn't be happier.

Took me about 3 months to find my 2000 with 49k miles on it. I was scouring Autotrader, Craigslist, Search Tempest every day and then THE truck popped up one morning on Autotrader. I was the first one to call on it, the Toyota dealership near Sacramento (I live in San Diego, 550 miles away) hadn't even run it through their shop yet. I got a half dozen cell phone pics and a CarFax from the dealer the same day. Dealer called me a few hours after lunch and said lots of people interested, you gotta make a move or it's gone! I put a deposit down and locked it down the same day. Flew up 2 weeks later and drove it home. Not my first choice in color but the low miles sold me on it. I'm really liking the color on it now!

Back in 2009 took the :princess: to a CPO Toyota lot to look at a cherry 2002 4Runner Limited with TRD supercharger and locker...she saw a 2005 Cruiser 2 cars over and decided she wanted a 100-series instead. Took me about 4 months to find one in our price range with low-ish miles. Saw one get posted up on a CPO Toyota lot 90 miles away and bought it that evening. 2002 with 116k for $14.5 back in 2009.

My parent's next door neighbor has a 100-series that they recently told my dad they were thinking of offloading for around $4k because they all of a sudden have like 6 vehicles....I might be coming home with another Cruiser after Christmas :) at that price I'd be tempted to SAS or combine with an 80 and a stretched 40 tub...

I had no intentions of buying a new vehicle and trading my Tacoma. Had the opportunity to buy a super clean 1 owner 2004 for wholesale and signed paperwork right then (even before even seeing it). About as immediate as you can get.

My uncle bought my 2000 LC for his wife brand new. She only drove it to get groceries and pick up their kids so it never even touched more than a gravel road until I got my hands on it. It had all of the service history in the glove box and every oil change, tire rotation, and brake job was done by Orr Toyota in Hot Springs, AR. He sold it to me in '10 with 35k on the dash for $10,000 (family discount) and I have been in love with it ever since!

Searched The net for 3 days found my 98 lx 470 on CL with 56k on a Monday night, wired a deposit unseen, drove a 1 way rental that Friday (blk Friday to be exact) and picked it up for $14k after I drove it around the block (timing belt done at 49k) and drove back to North St Aug!
