Hey all-

1981 FJ60

Topic says it all... how do you clean the dang gas filter? shoot air through the three ports? Sea Foam? Carb cleaner?

Do you need to remove the thing or can you just shoot some stuff down into it?

TIA.

I don't see why you would clean it? Just get a new one, they are CHEAP! I can change my gas filter in about 30 seconds, no need to clean.

I just took it apart, seperated the filters and shot some air in the casing and through the filters to get the dirt out. I don't know if this is the recommended method, but seemed to work fine.

Are you referring to thge fuel filter or the gas filter that is screwed intot he top of the intake manifold. If you mean the fuel filter, it is a disposable/replaceable part. If you mean the gas filter, which is a three port filter screwed into the top of the intake, just make sure air can pass through it freely and it'll be fine. You really don't need to clean it.

chi

i am talking about the 3 port gas filter on the intake. Mine seems to be clogged.

I don't know why, but I was thinking about the EGR modulator. Yeah, like Chitown said, just make sure air can pass through it.

OK but

what if air doesn't pass through it freely? how do i clean?

Since there are no electronic parts in it, you can prolly shoot some brake cleaner through it. Might also want to post up in the wanted section as I'm sure there are lots of these floating around especially since there a few peaople parting out 60s in there. I'll check and see if I have an extra as well next time I'm home.

wtf? i guess i'm missing that part. the gas line on mine goes right into the carb. unless you are calling the carb the thing screwed into the intake maifold.

Thanks

Hey Chitown-

If you have a spare, definitely let me know. I'll post in the wanted section as well. In the meantime, I'll do some experimenting.
