How can you tell if it's a '25?

Oh yeah, if he won't sell it to you.......................steal the gas cap. ;p

Hey Jim, that puts you third in line for the cap. I'm still trying to convince Archie that he doesn't really need it ;p

Hey Rigger, what's the frame look like on this rig?

Did you go see what they want for it yet?

I'll let everyone else fight over the gas cap, I don't want to be accused of being a hoarder. Hopefully it's an original one. I could probably retire if I could find a source for the gas caps. So what happened to all the gas caps anyway?

Post up a picture or two of your FJ40 and FJ25. You got a FJ25 right? So you need a frame? I still trying to get Jim to come out west next year and buy a tub. If he does he might haul a frame back east. Buy the frame I'll include the title and roll bar. Wouldn't be worth it to ship a roll bar back east. By the way 1974 model was the first year Toyota installed a roll bar in a FJ40.

I'll be having another look at it and talking with the owner tomorrow.

I'll check out the frame, the VIN, the gas cap, the tub condition, etc.

Would I be banished from here if I said I was thinking of buying it and parting it?

No, but you'll soon see how cheap we are. Basically this is your market. ;p

Are these Q's directed at me?

Really directed at Dean, you are already posting pictures of a FJ25. Speaking of pictures did you go look at it again today? As far as a parts rig I might be interested if you pick it up. Before buying I would find out what is has and who will buy what.

John

I'm still uncertain what to do with this thing, but I am pretty sure I will not be buying it with intent to fix it up. It is just too far gone, I'm afraid. It has a few parts that I am interested in obtaining. I was there today. The owner gave me a price for the whole thing. I'm mulling it over a bit.

Oh, and I did confirm that it is a '25 - the VIN says FJ25 something something something.

Sorry. The locking gas cap is damaged. I'm not sure if it is the original one.

The turn signal lever is there. Was someone interested in that?

The original 16" wheels are gone. Are the axles worth anything?

The nice chrome interior door handles are there. I want to get those.

Both doors are there.

The rear upper door is there. Lower half doors are gone.

Top is gone. One side is there. One side is gone.

Radiator shroud is there in the back.

I'll post a picture or six . . . .

Yep that looks like the original gas cap. I might be interested in the doors depending what shape they are in. Might be able to make one good with the ones I have. This is on a vehicle I'm trying to sell. Are the rear barn doors they. I might be interested in a few other parts.

John

Here's a door. Main glass gone.

I'd buy it if for nothing else to help other 25 owners down the road...parts will be harder to find, and it would be a shame to let it go to waste. At worst you may break even....what's the guy want for it anyway?

If you don't want it, then let us know so someone can save it :)

I sure will. As I said, I want some parts, but not all of it.

Perhaps we should turn the focus of this thread to collectively saving this thing. I'm in Billings, MT. This thing is within 2 hours drive from me. Yesterday, the owner offered it to me for $150. That is a paltry sum. That is walking-around money. Thats nothing. Problem is, I lack garage/yard space for it, I lack '25 expertise, I lack auto restoration expertise, I have plenty of other commitments as a business owner and a father to 7 beautiful children. I also have a '40 that I'm wrenching on. So overall, I am not the best guy to own this '25. But I, like you, want to save it from the crusher. I'll help as I can.

Keep in mind that I can't store it for any long time period.

Who wants it, or a piece of it? And what can you do, moneywise and effortwise to help save it? More importantly, if you want it, and I secure it, when can you come get it? Remember, you won't be able to drive it home! :D

Guys: I'm being a little secretive still about the location because there's two '40's here, too and I want some parts off those. But, as soon as I can, I'll spill all to save this '25. Hang with me.

:eek:I'm getting good at this..............

I don't need anything off of it that I can see. Invaluable parts to the 25 guys would be the turn signal switch, and gas cap, even in that condition. I wouldn't mind a spare tranny and transfer case if they're not all rusty inside. Axles you can't hardly give away.

I would like to see someone step up and save the whole thing. Is the tub and frame bad? It really doesn't look too bad in the pictures. If it isn't it too bad it would be a great resto-mod at a godd price for a frame and tub.

I'm too far away, and too involved in other projects to take it on. If you go back try to get the whole VIN#, just for referance.

I'm not trying to step on anyones toes, but I would definately be in for the tub and frame if they were in decent enough shape. Like stated earlier, it might not be practical for a full restoration, but it seems like it could be quite the conversation piece on the trail>

Well, you're the first to say which part you want.

Here's another tub pic. It does have rusty corners.

More. The tranny hump is gone. :frown:

The VIN was very hard to see. I squinted at that thing for quite a while before I could read it.

FJ25-20835

There might also be a zero in front of the F.
