How bad is your gas mileage?

@Diff Kraken some members have reported mpg increase by replacing the pcv valve on higher mileage 200s. worth a look if you haven’t done so.

my mpg display shows 14.4 combined. i am stock. i can see 18-19 highway at sea level consistently if i keep it under 80

Between traffic and your bumper you kinda hosed… stop and go traffic will lower your MPG and when you’re at speed when you’d normally be making up the difference your exposed tires are a massive drag you engine has to push.

Don't hate me! I posted a while back this photo. Granted it's highway average, typically between West Central Nevada and Home (Sacramento) on Interstate 80 over Donner Pass. My record is actually 2MPG more. Lightly loaded, a few guns, hunting equipment, me and my dog. Bone stock vehicle. I wonder if it has to do with the initial 900+ mile break in I gave it from Montana (where my other home is) and Sacramento. I do drive "easy." My wife, who has a bit of a lead foot and drives suburban stuff gets mid-13's.

Impressive!

I have a solo highway drive coming up this week. No kids, gear, or camper. I’m curious what mine can achieve.

Just returned from a 5000 mile road trip. Two adults, two kids, four bikes, camping gear, a small rooftop box, and an awning. Average was probably around 13, but I also got my best tank ever at 17.6 MPG. This was almost entirely at 45-55mpg through the Tetons and Yellowstone, but included some stop and go and a little light off-roading. If it wasn't for the somewhat limited fuel availability in Yellowstone, I would have pushed it for over 400 miles, just to get a 400 mile tank just once.

That's pretty good @TimCFJ40 . We consistently see 17-19mpg while doing 75 on I-10 loaded down with gear and headed to Florida from Texas multiple times per year. These vehicles can pull it off with the right circumstances and speeds.

Thanks! I just ordered a new PCV valve.

Agree with @Tex68w that 9.9MPG does seem a bit low. Though I don't have a bumper to know what to expect? @grinchy , is this what you would expect? Seems extreme even for a larger ARB.

I'm on 35s with otherwise stock aero and tried pretty hard to keep things as efficient as possible. 11-12 MPG around town. 14-16 MPG fwy.

At 175k, you might look into refreshing the primary oxygen sensors as that could have a good impact.

Wondering if I should go ahead and replace all 3 of these oxygen sensors, or just the downstream, or maybe wait and see if the new PCV valve helps:

Ft Oxygen Sensor, LEFT and Right

LAND CRUISER; AT CONVERTER; LEFT and Rear Oxygen Sensor, RIGHT

LAND CRUISER; AT CONVERTER; LEFT and RIGHT

There should be 4 sensors total, and you'll only really need the 2 primary upstream sensors as those are the ones responsible for closed loop fueling. Bank 1 Sensor 1, and Bank 2 Sensor 1. Don't worry about the secondary sensors in each bank as they're more for emissions.

O2 sensors slow down in response as they age. While still above the threshold of a diagnostic CEL, they'll affect closed loop fueling and efficiency. I plan to change mine at about 150k.

For a cheaper option, for those that don't mind splicing wiring, you can buy name brand Denso's with flying leads. Splice the new sensor to the harness of the existing sensor.

Very helpful. Thank you.

I wonder how many 200 owners have reserved or considered a Rivian Suv or truck to replace their 200 with gas prices going up and probably not going anywhere for sometime. My wife is thinking of reserving the Rivian RS today, to get in 2yrs 🤷🏻 I saw three new hummers and they looked really sweet but it looks huge.

Update: never mind, they are not offering the max pack for the suv for some reason. That’s a deal breaker as anything under 400mi of range isn’t worth $100k in my book for an ev

That has been the government's intention for the public all along, this is all on purpose. Don't give in to the pressure. :)

Couldn’t agree more. I love the idea of having the convince of EV, not needing the regular maintenance of ICE. The biggest bonus is when it’s really cold or hot and being able to have the vehicle climatized before getting in by using my phone. At some point we will have one. But 100k and not being able to test drive it is a tough sell for me. Heck, I won’t even buy clothes or furniture online unless I can try it first.

We got to talking about this the other day so we went to the Rivian website and built a R1S and with the larger battery and 4 motors it was right at $99K. I can't justify six-figures for a vehicle smaller than the 200 and with a range no better than the Cruiser we already have that I'll likely have to wait 2+ years for that will still have first gen tech. We aren't totally sold on the EV trend yet largely due to the lack of range but also because the charging network is in its infancy.

The supply strain of chips isn’t helping and Intel said it’s holding off on building the chip plant in Ohio doesn’t help ease that future strain. I wonder if prices on Rivian are higher because of these related issues and building the actual battery. Just a couple weeks ago the Max pack was offered and now it’s not. The large pack only gives you 316 mi. of range and they charge you $6k for that option now. Crazy

If I had to guess, not many.

If you tow or roll heavy, watch this and get back to me. Granted, the electric in that video is a Ford but all EV’s will suffer tremendously under load.

Just watched it. Oh lord, I’m definitely not buying an EV truck for towing. I can’t imagine how poorly the range would have been going over the Rockies or any mountain pass. The best would be a diesel to really maximize the range.

Have we confirmed denso is the OE provider for toyota on the 200? People (understandably) assumed that about 80-series sensors and had a ton of problems. When the forum figured out the actual provider was NTK/NGK things started working right..

EV's lose range for more than just towing, extreme temps, heavy use of the AC, terrain variations, added passenger weight and payload. Same decreases as you experience in a ICE vehicle but magnified.

That's fair and I haven't. Just assumed. I wasn't aware of the 80-series sensor issues?

Most NTK and Denso sensors are functionally equivalent and should be compatible, but I'm assuming again.

I did a little digging and was too broad. It was the OBDI 93-94 years specifically. 95-97 denso worked fine.

And I dealt with the exact issue, buying densos for my 94 that had problems that NTKs fixed.

All I’m saying is I learned the OE supplier really made a difference then. By 2008 things may have been standardized..

Turns out Genuine Toyota lambda sensors are only $130 each from partsouq..
