so went to pull my hood latch up and released the hood but now is not working . Any one have this same problem before ? Is it the latch mechanism up front any help be great .

Is the hood able to be shut completely and now you cannot pop the hood again? If the hood can lock closed when shut then likely your cable is broken. If it is not able to lock closed by slamming the hood shut the mechanism that latches the hood shut is stuck. Lube it up and cycle the latch with a big screwdriver.

Sounds like the cable broke or probably the crimped end stop broke at the latch. Happened to me once. I replaced the cable with oem. Not a terrible job. Lube up the jacket to get it through the firewall grommet

If your cable is broke, it's kind of a pain in the ass to get your hood open due to the fact that Toyota installed an anti theft cover over the hood latch release. If you do a search, there are some threads on how to unbolt the latch by coming up underneath the bumper, between the grill, and condenser, but you'll need long arms. Another way is to grab the broken end of the cable inside your truck, under the dash with vice grips, and try pulling on it. The other option is to break out your plastic grill in order to get at the bolts holding the latch in place. My cable broke while my hood was open, so i wrote a thread about how to make an outside hood release just in case the inside cable breaks again.
Before your hood lock fails, got a backup plan?

Sorry dude, one of those situations where you are boots on the ground > greater than all our guessing.

If you're stuck in the open with just the safety latch holding (how you made it sound) -then you're broken in the best possible scenario with the cable crimp at the front latch having just finally fatigued & failed.

Cable or Spring
Pull the grill, unlatch by hand and check for a spring. If spring is missing get one from a hardware store.

Just had this happen to me. Was able to pull hard on the cable in the cab. This caused the lock to pop so now I am wondering WTH is broken or what to fix? It still does not pop unless pulled really hard with pliers.

Mine was getting stuck closed like this pretty often.
Pull on the release lever and it would not pop open.
It required a bit of leverage upward on the hood, while someone else pulled the release lever.
Then it would pop.
It was just barely, barely not releasing.
Some small adjustment to the latch fixed it, can't remember specifically.

I'll try those ideas.
I'll probably just replace the whole thing - cable and latch assembly - plus I saw a pretty good mod on here - fab a back up release that can be operated from the grill -by adding a secondary direct pull cable with loop that attaches to the same point where the stock cable goes but then you hide it behind the grill.
