land of enchantment, at least for now
After 6 months of patience I finally took delivery of this beauty. 1984 HJ47 troopy with 94,000 kms, immaculately maintained and garaged. Aircon, pto, exceptional condition. Now the dilemma of making vehicle choices begins....

Don't hack it up!!

It's too perfect, you can't change a thing. Sell it to me and you can go buy something that needs some work.;)

Oh you poor unfortunate soul. What ever will you do?

I sure hope you didn't come here looking for sympathy.

I think I hate you so much right now.

If you don't want to have to debate it any longer, feel free to drive it down here to park it out of sight.

Are you happy with the 2H? Much change over the H that was in the black one? Or would you be talking about swapping in a V8 for this one too?

That thing is beautiful!

Dan

Very nice David! When do we get to take a closer look?

I would like to hear more details, such as...

Is this another Aussie truck?

Were you involved in the importation?

More details on the engine - I'm assuming another diesel straight six (Dan says a 2H?) Is it turbo'd?

How about the tranny - 5 speed manual?

Is it totally stock?

What the heck is that leading zero on the odometer? I don't think I've ever seen a Toyota that had one of those before? :hhmm:

Very, very nice. Feel free to share more info whenever you have a chance, and bring it down to Abq to break it in!

Sweet. Just in time for our next Elena Gallegos party erhh meeting...

Awesome!:steer:

with 94,000 kms,

That's like 50,000 miles or something ridiculous like that. What's to decide? Rip the camper out of the one with the V8 and slap it in this one, sell the other two, user the $$ to build up the FJ45 to wheel and buy an 80 for your DD and keep this one for camping trips.

Cruiser Utopia.

Just try to get all that done before the girls are grown and off to college. :D

Don't worry, I'm not looking for sympathy. :) The dilemma is what to do with something so nice. It drives like brand new--no squeaks, no rattles, tight steering, perfect brakes; it is mechanically perfect. It's about 57,000-ish miles. Funny thing is my 40 has less miles (53,000), but obviously it's no comparison to this. Only flaws are it has only one side of the rear jump seats and the driver seat has a split that needs repaired.

This has a n/a 2H, which I can definitely tell has more power than the H. With the 4 speed and 4.11 gears, it's a little short on gearing. It would be better on the road with 3.73s or a 5 speed. But it's totally fine in town. I could never molest this rig, though. I couldn't swap the motor, I'd never put the camper stuff in it, I wouldn't take it off-road. It would be my d-d. Problem is I've never had a car this nice and how to keep it this nice with kids and dogs (and me)?

This one has been 6 months coming. I found it last August, made an offer in September, he finally accepted it in December and it shipped out of Melbourne in Feb. I had it transported from LA instead of picking it up. When the truck driver called from the road, he couldn't stop talking about how nice it was. And he continued on when he arrived, telling me how nice it was and that everyone that saw it wanted to buy it.

Without telling specifically what you paid (total) to get this rig (unless you want to), what is the average cost of getting one of these from Australia. You've got the purchase price and then of course the shipping and import expenses. Just a ballpark total cost is what I'm curious about.

HDC Meeting/party - Saturday, April 4th at Elena Gallegos picnic ground. Come on down! We'll wear bibs or something so we don't get drool all over it.

Oh POOP!. April 4th? Damn, I have something going on that day. Bummer.

Purchase prices are all over the board depending on condition, plus another $3500 for the boat ride, customs and transport to the house. The USD has been pretty strong against the AUD, but that's changing now.

I'd bring it to the meeting, but I work Saturdays anymore to help pay the bills.

So we should have the barbecue at your work parking lot?

Steve, Steve, Steve

I am sure we could find a HDC member that would be more than happy to drive it to a club meeting for him. I think work would frown upon David for having a bunch of drooling SOBS hanging out in the parking lot. WTF were you thinking?

Fred the Troopy

David,

I still think you should park Fred (the new Troopy) in your new master bedroom. Simply tell Ashleigh that you guys will have to sleep in the guest room from now-on. I think that is fair, and I am sure she will see the logic in it.:) This way it will stay nice forever, and you can go out and polish it each day like the last owner did.

That is THE nicest bone-stock Troopy in America, I am almost certain of it. Once it is sold, it is sold. That rig is the proverbial Corvette in the Barn find that everyone dreams of. If you sell it, just make sure that you get what it is worth. Talk to you soon.

Cheers,

Josh

Any updates on this?

David is planning to bring it to our High Desert Cruisers meeting this Saturday at my house in Tijeras. You're welcome to join us! Check the "May Meeting" thread for more details. Also, feel free to introduce yourself - I don't recognize your handle.

But, welcome! :flipoff2: (nothing personal, that's how we welcome all the newbies!)
