Okay, got in the truck this morning and since I had just taken all the carpet out to get the smell out, I noticed coolant in the cab on the drivers side with a very little on the passenger side both coming from towards the top of the heater core. Looked under the hood at the hoses and had a leak from the one closer to the passenger side. Since that hose was leaking, and most of the coolant was on the drivers side I ASSumed the heater core was clogged and/or leaking(not running out of the hose connection into the cab!) Engine recently rebuilt and the old radiator had to be tossed because you couldn't get any water through it, (PO and lots of stop leak), so i figured the core was probably clogged. Well, 2.5 hours later and the truck pretty much completely disassembled on the inside I put the hose to the heater core, which is actually more of a PITA then the whole engine replacement, and the water flows right through with no problem. So did I do all of that for a freakin hose that was leaking? I mean it was pretty rusty on the bottom but did not appear to be leaking. I could be the dumbest son of a b!@#$ alive if that is the case!

LOL. I assume you mean the water flowed throught the heater core with no problem and no leak? Well, replace it anyway or put it all back together.

FWIW, I usually replace rusty things if I have them where I can conveniently replace them.....makes me feel like I actually accomplished something!

Thanks wrist! Come to find out I went and had the old core pressure tested and it was leaking from everywhere. Got the truck buttoned up yesterday and everything is good. Heat blows HOT. Actually went back together much easier than expected, but if it leaks again I think I will just cap the heater core off and just run the lines together before I do it again. Thanks for the advice.

Here are some pictures of the heater core project!
