Also picked up some power steering parts yesterday for the old 2h, power steering pump and bracket, 60 series steering box reservoir and hoses for $250. The pump is off the later 2h (4 bolt pump) but will fit and looks like l need to make a simply bracket to pick up a 3rd mounting point. Not too sure if I’ll go the 60 yet or just use my factory power steering box and column from the LX parts rig. Might strip and clean them up, refit the box and see how it goes.

Also been looking into the cold start with low oil pressure, tried another sender l had still the same. It usually starts stright away but shutdown one to two times depending on ambient temp. If l disconnect the oil sender for the edic shutdown it takes 8 seconds to register oil pressure on the gauge. Removed the oil pressure relief valve to inspect, slight scoring but looks ok, think most problems with these is over pressuring from it getting stuck in the housing, a longer version is available to rectify this issue.
Getting a new oil pressure tester to confirm what’s going on pressure wise. Once running oil pressure looks good on the gauge and responds to revs. Might dump the oil and try some fresh stuff as this ute sat around for gods knows how long, l have changed it once only so thinking it might be sludged up🤷🏻‍♂️
Trial fitted some old spotties l had laying around

Worked on fixing the fuel gauge that didn’t seem accurate, previously l had another spare that I fitted but no good. After some playing around I checked the earth wiring and found no continuity. Stripped back the wiring under the passenger seat and bingo, a poor wiring repair. Cut and resoldered the wires and all is good again.
This is what l found, wires pulled apart with a small amount of pressure

Continued to look for the low oil pressure problem at start up and decided to fit an oil pressure gauge to the engine. Wanted to remove the oil pressure sensor for the EDIC control and it all turned to s***💩
Snapped off in the block, so now the starter motor and stud have been removed, you can see the stud in the way of drilling out the broken sensor.
Drilled and tried an easy out but still tight, added some heat but nothing.
Not sure if I should continue to drill and put some bulk heat into it🤷🏻‍♂️

Eventually got the bitch out, but don’t have a BSPT tap. Hopefully the threads are ok, was thinking about cleaning up the starter motor while it’s off then fitting it and cranking it over to purge any crap out.
Does anyone know where the oil feed for this switch comes from?

So after that disaster was sorted l rigged up a gauge to check the oil pressure. On a cold start it takes 25 seconds at idle to get the gauge to register oil pressure, way too long for my liking. Once oil pressure is up it is 70psi @ idle and 85psi @ approx 3,000 rpm.
Then sits about 30psi hot @ idle so all with in spec. Was thinking it might be the relief valve as they can cause issues but not sure about the no pressure for that long?
Possibly a strainer is blocked or can the relief valve cause the oil to drain back to the sump overnight?

Just read a write up where a guy had the same issues with the low oil pressure cut out causing him to start his vehicle 3-4 times before oil pressure came up and he fixed it with the longer upgraded oil pressure relief valve. Will order one as it will probably need it eventually🤷🏻‍♂️ I guess it’s only money right. Attached pics of my oil pressure gauge readings

New modified oil relief valve arrived, it looked a bit ordinary and needed a clean up before installing. Looked like some sort of preservation on it but had some surface rust starting. New vs old
Started a few times now after leaving for a day or two and oil pressure comes up in about 4 seconds on the gauge, hopefully sorted.

Also scored this original steel roof for cuts and repairs for $50, going to use a 300 mm section to extend my project cab. After cleaning up and treating the under side of the roof l’m very happy with the buy.
Progress on all my projects has been slow as had Covid and all the honey do jobs.

Have returned home after a 15 day shift and started the old girl to move from the shed where she has been sitting since l left, and to my disappointment the oil pressure took a long time to register on the gauge. (30 seconds) So it seems that the longer relief valve didn't fix the problem.
Not sure whether to just live with this or pull the sump and check the pick up for blockages or is it something else causing the oil pump to loose its prime?
I could hear the tappets get quieter once the oil pressure started to come up on the gauge.

Cleaned up all the wiring around the starter for the oil pressure senders and just going to drive and enjoy it, seems the low oil pressure on start up is a common issue with an old 2h. Some say it is the oil pump showing signs of wear🤷🏻‍♂️
Been clearing some trees along my property boundary for a fence and my old Stihl chainsaw needs some love.
This chainsaw was my old man’s and l have memories of his old 1975, FJ45 and the chainsaw cutting firewood when we were kids. Now he has past away l don’t think l would ever sell it, so been ordering new parts for it.
Stihl 032AV with a 16” bar made from 1978, cool old thing👍
Needed all the Anti vibe mounts and a good service, chain drive and bar and chain will also be replaced

Replaced the chain drive to a newer style, old one was worn quite bad.
Will check how much the chain is oiling once the new bar and chain are fitted.
Came across a great thread on these old chainsaws here on mud from D’Animal. Old trucks and chainsaws, love this forum👍

Still waiting on a chain and bar for it, a mate has a 20” bar and chain for me so need to catch up with him.
Been cleaning up the workshop and organising parts for my 40/80 future build. Pulled out some extra screens l had and decided to swap my triple wiper set up into a rust free or better condition screen. And why not build another triple wiper set up while your there. My original LX wiper set up to take measurements from.

Some pics of the new triple wiper screens and modified the original wipers to suit.
Had to remove the rear supports inside the screen and trowels them into the new positions. Still one screen to go but the linkages are done, will strip and clean them and degrease before final install.
I read that the linkage at the motor was different for the LX triple wiper but mine are all the same, so didn’t need to change anything.

Had the HJ47 on the hoist and noticed a bolt missing from the side step mount and some damage to the bracket. Such is life for an old farm ute. The other side had a imperial bolt in the mount🙄
Pulled the mounting brackets and gave them a straighten and sandblast and paint.
Removed the steps and cleaned up the dirt and rust proofed them between the body.

While l had the sidesteps off l decided to straighten the sills as best l could without damaging the paint. I used one of my dolly’s behind the sill, a clamp and timber on the outside. Turned out alright but there’s still a lot of damage to the corners and I’m not ready to go down that rabbit hole yet.
