hi guys, i just traded for a 1981 hilux 4x4 and ive got some little things that i want to get straightened out, first it has the shifter slop (found the fix for this), the dash is kind of busted up, and the column is in TERRIBLE SHAPE! the question is... do any other vehicles columns swap? im guessing i might have some trouble finding a good one. any suggestions?

I know a guy that has a toyota pickup salvage yard in NC if your interested. By the way how do you fix the shifter slop.

Marlin Crawler and probably some other vendors sell new shifter seats to fix the slop problem

Pretty sure an FJ60 column is very similar to the late first-gen column.

The biggest probem is that there are I think 3 generations of column for the early RN trucks.
I say just run it as-is, clean up the switches as needed, and then just go with the scabbed column.
Your passengers will think you're a reaver.

How about a column from a Gen2 pickup or Gen1 4Runner. Might be close.

2ndgen is correct, MC has new shifter seat and bushings to make it shift like a sports car!

Those Marlin Crawler shifter seats are real nice and easy to install. Getting the old ones out, not so fun. Have a good pair of tweezers or long point needle nose pliers to get all the disintegrated old bits out. It can be done with the transmission in place, but you will need to remove the shifter boots. That can be a chore if the carpet is still in place. I replaced my shifter boots at that point.

i just completed my order, i wanted to cover all the bases so i got the seat, the bushing and the rubber cover.

i just got done getting rid of the rest of the smog and unused vac lines and canisters... i think that is all to eliminate under the hood. also put the new seat in, WOW what a difference!
