High Beam Indicator Not Working After Koito Install - LED Still The Fix? (1 Viewer)

I am in for one if you can?
Hey man! If you’d like one go ahead and order on the website, but know I won’t be shipping until middle of next week. The website is set up to take orders on these even if I’m out of stock. It helps me calculate how many supplies to order for the next round.

I'm in the same boat - neither incandescent nor LED bulbs were working for me. At least one piece of this puzzle is the floating stock headlight plug that you're left with after using the Koito harness. @HemiAlex hipped me to a small module from HID Kit Pros - it plugs into that empty headlight connector and I would guess it's a dummy load.

I got that installed and now my high beam indcator works but is very dim. You can see it at night, but not at all during the day. Oddly enough, only incandescent bulbs are working. LEDs don't come on at all. In the photos below, the indicator is on in the daytime shot - clearly bot visible at all.

I have the same problem, do you have a part number for that item from HID kit pros?

Hey there. That HID Kit Pros module did not fully work for me with the Koito kit. The high beam indicator came, but it was so dim that it was difficult to see even in the pitch black of night. If you want to give it a try anyway, check their website - I'm sure you'll find it. Maybe it works for LED setups or other wiring harnesses (or probably with HID Kit Pros own stuff).

That post I made was a year ago, and in the past year I finally figured out how to solve the high beam indicator problem (for the Koito headlight & harness kit). I am now making and selling a module that DOES, without a doubt fix the problem. So what are you running? The Koito headlight and harness kit? Something else?

NICE!!!! Just ordered. It's the little things that are the most satisfying to fix. The headlight upgrade rated up there the best upgrades, right up there with H55, metal glove box, hood insulator and new carpet, but the indicator bulb really bugged me. Would of paid double what you charged...thanks for coming up with this fix.

I mean, feel free to pay double! I'll take it hahaha!

Ordered, thanks for creating this solution. BTW, I have this same Koito modification done on my HJ47 and it worked without issue. Not sure the difference between the 47 and the 60 wiring theory, but I'm grateful for this solution.

Thanks
Scott

@DieselFJ is the HJ a 24V system. These HBIMs weren’t designed with that in mind. I need to check the component specs to verify safety. That’s laid out in the website and the instructions I include. I really do appreciate the feedback though. I’ll take a look at the wiring diagram of the HJ47 and see what it’s doing.

@Augustiron I’m just leaving for the post office right now. I think one of these is yours. And yes, the 60 is my daily.

No, the HJ47 is a 12v out of Australia, it was the first kit I installed so I was thrown off when the same kit and installation didn't work in the 60. BTW, love the 60.

I was just thinking about what the difference may have been then I realized I already had swapped to LED's in the HJ47 which must have been the reason it worked.

Swapped an LED into the high beam indicator?

That's been a solution for some people and not others, and the inconsistency bothers me. Why is it working for some and not others? In my previous 60 I put an LED in the HBI and it came on VERY dimly - barely able to see it at night. An incandescent didn't even come on. My current wild ass guess is conductance/cross talk in adjacent wires, or a wire next to a relay. It imparts a small - and I mean SMALL - current in the wire for the HBI. But I could be very wrong on that.

Yeah, from what I remember I did every light in my dash, but I'd have to pull it to verify. It functions as it should and it's very bright.

I recently upgraded my headlights to the Koito kit on my 60 resulting in excellent headlights over stock sealed beam performance. My HBI wasn't working as this thread indicates. I'm glad I stumbled across this thread. Super easy solution to a small problem. These are the type of things that are annoying to deal with.
So a big shout out to Jim is in order for offering a cool little solution to our community.
Thanks my friend for the little things that make a big difference.

Thanks Casey! Glad you got that nice blue light going on your dash now.

FYI, I am now stocking the Koito kits - Toyota part number 81110-60P70. Buy the Koito kit & HBIM and get $10 off.

Some of the places on the web (mostly the dealers with a big parts presence) are charging low prices for the kit, but when you go to check out, suddenly shipping adds $60+. I feel like I have a pretty good total price on these for folks.

FYI the HBIM is currently only applicable for 1981-1987 FJ60s with 12V electrical systems, and only when using the Koito kit (81110-60P70). They may work outside of that but I can't guarantee it, nor can I take a return on it if it doesn't work for your 62, 40, JW speaker LED light kit, etc, etc. It is a narrow product and the website is clear about that. If you NEED this to work for another application PM me and let's chat about it first.

What do I think it probably works for? Late model, US-spec 40s & 55s. Haven't been able to test yet, but it should get the high beam indicator working with the Koito kit in those trucks. What else am I working on? A 24V version for 70 Series trucks, a version for various LED light kits, and a version for whatever kits people are throwing at the 62.

Just installed mine today. Now I can see if I’m blinding the people in front of me. Thanks @CruiserTrash Great work!

the kit works .... This headlight kit is a great improvement, I've wasted a few dollars in the past with screwing around with other things.
