Oh, and if you did do “body working” of the rear cross member, what would that have involved? I will have a fair amount of pitted frame areas when I get into my build. Thanks again!

I decided not to bodywork the rear cross member as the hitch covered most of the pits. The metal underneath wont rust as it was blasted and treated with the SEM product. But if I was to smooth it out, I would approach it the same as any body panel. I may be more inclined to lead it, or use all-metal filler by usc. Then sand / prime / sand / seal / paint.

Went and picked it up!

All is good. It was still there, and all parts accounted for. Now I have some bodywork to do... :)

Soooo...

for the last few weeks I have been able to get this build back in gear. ( due to the sale of my 73) Started (and finished) all of the patch panels that needed to be done. also installed the new rear sill.
Ground down a couple hundred welds, body worked it all. shot a overall coat of primer, and am now in the sanding mode. Aiming for paint in mid april. still have a handful of minor metal work to do on all the other parts. but most are in mint shape.

Anyhoo, I will be posting regularly moving forward.

Hard top has been painted minus the white cap. (That should be going into paint this weekend)

Since the last post, I have installed the wiring harness, as well as some dash bits, rear doors, etc.

Spent a few hours cutting and buffing the single stage paint. Last bits still to go into paint are the doors. Getting closer...

After f'n with the original wipers forever, none of them parked and were shot. So I found a set of aftermarket stainless steel motors that look great, are a direct bolt in, and park!
Moving forward...

Photo of the pintle I’m my 64. Not sure if original but PO said it was.
No, that one is not original. Here is a snap from an early owner's manual, and picture of my original pintle hitch.

Pintle with a ball?

Update*
Been working on things. FINALLY got the doors into paint.
Some of the best paint work I have done. Wish the whole rig turned out this nice without the follow up cutting and buffing.
This is 3 coats single stage urethane. Low pressure on first two coats, med pressure on final coat. These pics are with no cut and buff.
Also notice how grey the color looks in this light compared to the previous pictures.

Also got the bug catchers into primer.

Getting real close.

The only thing left to paint are the bug catchers, and the roof. Also going to repaint the drivers front fender due to some post mounting scratches / gouges. :(

A week late, but got the front doors installed... !
Went on like butter...
They don't make weatherstrip for a 64. The top of the door has no provision for it and the rubber actually goes on the upper door bow. So I figured I would go with the CCOT seal. Not OEM at all. But works perfectly for the space. Complete seal all the way around ( minus the top). Very happy with the color match as well. This was a second batch of paint I had mixed up. They matched it perfectly!
Sorry for the low light pics...

Restored the original inner door handles as I love the angle they have compared to the new aftermarket versions. There so basic there's really no play at all..

Got a few things done the past couple days.
Bug catcher wing windows were a bitch, but forced them into the original seals. Seals aren't pretty at 65 years old but not too bad. May change those out before selling.
Also mounted the drivers side fender after a repaint.
Found out I now have the same damn issue with the passenger side fender. I don't know what I did but getting the same bubbling. Frustrating ...
Also did some work on the rear bifold rear door, and threw in the driver side rear seat for fun.
Got the top in the shop and will start getting to work on that tomorrow.

I just read thru your build, looks really great. Like the paint color, heath greyish, do you have the paint code for what you are using? Sorry if I missed it.

Hey there.. Thanks...

The code is LS183. It's a Spectramaster code. (DuPont) the paint can look grey in some pics, and very blue in others. All depends on the light. Really loving this color.
