After my front right shock mounting hardware disintegrated on the interstate near my home I ordered new ones from my local dealer thinking these would work fine until I'm ready to do the ome upgrade this November. I was surprised that the Toyota shocks were cheaper than the bottom of the line monroes from Advanced but happy to have genuine Toyota parts.

But wait. There's more.

They came with bushings but without the plates needed to complete the install. The parts guy said those are sold separately which would have been nice to know. The bilsteins and monroes come with that hardware. Must I order these from Toyota or is there a viable alternative?

I bought metric fender washers at Lowe's. $1.49 each. They are as thick as the OEM washers and 1/6th the price. They don't have the slight concave to them but they work just fine.

Yeah, people throw away the OEM hardware when they don't replace with the OEM shocks -- and they shouldn't. That's where it tends to disappear.

You'll likely find the Tokicos are well-matched to your truck. If OME is in your future at stock height, then no need for other shocks. If there's a lot of weight up front, they may not fully dampen, so you may need to consider alternatives. That's what happened with me, so I put OME Nitro Sports on the front, left the Tokicos on the rear and very happy with it. Hard to match the cost effectiveness of the Tokicos otherwise.

For a stock truck you can't beat the Tokicos. My 80 rides like a dream compared to the worn out Ranchos. Although it now highlights that my body mounts/bushings and engine mounts/bushings are worn out.

Yeah I've got the new tokicos in my hand. I just don't have [8 each] of the washers/plates shown in the picture above.

Toyota does not ship shocks with mounting hardware. You have to buy that kit separately.

go to auto zone buy the shocks, take out what you need and return their s***ty shocks. Think of it as them doing good will because they steal from their employees.

Well, they do...if you buy the rest of the truck with the shocks:D

Just go to Lowe's or Home Depot or wherever and pick up the heavy duty fender washers to fit and be done with it.

Sorry I don't have info about the hardwear. But when you get shocks please consider the cheap Fox shocks from Down South. They are about $420 for all 4 and are amazing. I am VERY happy with them. You hear so so comments about OME and theFox are great for only a little more. The step up from the fox are a lot more cash. I think the fox are the only logical choice above the OEM Toyota shocks.

From my experience you need those $9 washers aka "retainers" and the correct bushings for the shocks. I've used grade 8 washers and doorman bushings but the bushings will pull thru the hole in the shock tower and or the axle housing. JMTC. Good luck.

Bushings come with the shocks. Heavy metric washers are no different than the washers from the dealer.
