the minis do great with their crawlers most of the time but they arn't so heavy as the 80. i prefer hp and speed for snow when poss. just stop before the wheels sink
Yes I noticed that is the key to running the 80 in the deep snow. Just enough horsepower and speed to move but never let it sink. Once it sinks your screwed.
Awesome pics! Who's the gray 80? How'd that do?

No Sugar Please

Had a great time on Bald mountain (near Shaver Lake) Saturday the 14th. Great fun until the snow turned sugarey (won't pack... more like sand). Dan's red 'cruiser did a great job as rescue vehicle. ;)

How did the BIG 80 do in the sugery stuff? Got more pics?

I used it to show how great an FJ40 can do pulling out a stuck rig :)

He did good until we were in the slush. ALl his weight sucked him down. I only had the abiity to move around becasue I don't weigh as much and we are set up the same way (except I have 5" less space between pumpkins)

Dustin, email me the pics and video!!!!

OH . . . his rig didn't blow a valve cover gasket and need to make repairs at lunch instead of eating. That would be me . . . so his rig ran perfectly since he didn't need his tools.

Looks great, Dusty... Just wondering, is it possible to do Mark's crawl box and the 3:1 gears in the stock t/c? I haven't had the opportunity to open one up yet...
I thought of doing this but decided I did not want to lose my standard low range.

Dusty, just curious why do you tow your 80? Is it not street legal?

he saves the tires from unneeded wear is all.

Very cool to see the rig finally running! I was over there when you had your axles on order and the truck was on jackstands and you were parting out your old locked FZJ80 axles. I bought a bunch of stuff from you. Very impressive buildup man. You certainly went all out.

I am up at Dinkey Creek every year at the end of summer. It snowed one year on us as well.... I'll remember to give you a shout to see if you can meet us up there with your crazy rig. It isn't as nutty as your snow pics... but the summit is fun to wheel up to. We seem to shoot AR-10's and AR-15's for a few hrs on the way up in a canyon which is a blast. Shooting 4 to 5 thousand rounds in that time paints a smile on your face :) Especially double barrel shotguns vs. watermelons.... YouTube - double barrel shotgun vs. watermelon (my vid)

Is an exo skeleton in your future?

another good reason for the crawl box and another good reason not to get the 3.1 gears plus the crawl box.

i tow mainly because i can. have a new cummins and spent a pile on a tow trailer. just easier to tow and lets me wheel harder knowing i can tow home. the 80 was smogged just 2 weeks ago. i have driven her to work a few times and its not too bad. 70 mph is not a problem. a little squirly at low speed. i need to cut and turn the inner c's. and as she sits without flares or flaps or turn signals she is illegal.
