Help me decide on wheel paint color! Duplicolor Graphite, Anthracite Metallic ?

You should prime the wheels prior to painting if you're going over chrome. If the existing paint or powder coating on the wheels is good already, then scuffing them up should be fine. I'd recommend using a clear coat for protection, even if you want a satin or matte finish. The paint can fade due to road chemicals, car wash chemicals, and UV exposure. By sealing with a decent coat or two of clear, you can greatly extend the life of the pigment coating (paint).

Got them painted today! 320, red scuff pad, blow them off, wax and grease remover, one coat sealer, two finish coats with single stage.

They look great! I did all the prep work, my buddy at the paint shop sprayed them for me.

They weren't dry yet when I left, so hopefully they look good next to the riverock mica...

Was wondering why you pulled the wheels to do a slider job! Wheels look great!

For more DIY, less hassle, etc. consider Plastidip also makes an anthracite metallic color now too. Plastidip requires very little prep, dries quickly, and can peel off if you don't like it. I did the badges on my E55 a few months ago with it:

Here's my grille:

With the Plastidip glossifier it comes out something between a satin and a semi-gloss; for wheels and other trim pieces I like the effect. Whatever LC/LX I end up with is going to get this treatment too. :)

The anthracite metallic is also a LOT better looking than just the flat black we have all seen Plastidip used as for years now. Much, much better.

Totally agree on the Anthracite plasti-dip, got a few cans on the way! Can't wait to get my grill, wheels, etc. done.

Get the LX so you've got more trim to do to make it unique.

Agreed it definitely looks a lot better if you're not specifically looking for a black color just something darker than chrome and different.
