1987 FJ60 Land Cruiser: I'm trying to replace the ignition lock cylinder, and I've removed the old cylinder but now the new one won't go all the way in. Even the old one doesn't go back in so I assume the issue isn't with the cylinder itself but rather something in the column. Key is turned to accessories. I tried turning the thing from the other end inside the column and no matter how I adjust it, it doesn't seem to allow the cylinder in any further. It definitely isn't the little button that releases the cylinder because it won't even go in that far. What could be stuck?

Thanks!

Is it getting hung up on the white plastic buzzer button on the other side?

Hi, I thought you had to take off the buzzer to get it in and out. Mike

Did you hold down the black button

The white button gets pushed in and out of the way. As for the black button I've tried holding it down and fiddling with it every which way to no avail

Make sure the long tang is lining up with the female part in the switch. Mike

When removing it the manual states to use key to move to ACC then push black button remove cylinder. Install new cylinder turn key to ACC and install new cylinder. page sr7 and sr16 of TRM. There is also a video on this site.
