OTRAMM is rebuilding my H55F. It was taken from a BJ (diesel). The front bearing retainer is different than for a gasoline version. I have the input shaft for the conversion but I need the part number for the correct front bearing retainer or the bearing retainer itself.

Thanks

IIRCC there are 2 versions of the retainer. same vintage 4 speed should work,
is the BJ one too long? could it be cut down to length?

My understanding is that the different bearing retainers where a production date thing not a gas/diesel item. I also believe there was a change in bearing size hence the bearing retainer change. I don't know this with any degree of confidence but that's my understanding. I can confirm going from HZ input shaft to 2f input shaft on a new h55 doesn't require a change of bearing retainer. I would start by cross referencing part numbers on megazip or one of the other sites.

Don't how to link any sites with my phone. Have to be plenty used ones in the US. From 74 until the end of the 40 and 55 series had them. 60 series is the same as well. Just needs to be prior to 10/85. This was the easy part for me to find.

I checked and the bearing retainer didn't change until 4/86 on the FJ60 in the US. Guessing Toyota used up a number of leftovers here. As time goes by realize would a oddball market we were. 3F started 11/84 but we got the 2F until 8/87 when the FI 3F replaced the 2F. Wonder if that had to do with problems getting a emissions certified 3F with a carburetor?

We can supply whatever you may need .... we have good used bearing retainers ( early and late ), gasket and seal ( early and late ) and rebuild kits ( early and late ).

Why don’t you post a couple of pictures of you current bearing retainer so we can help you identify what you need.

The transmission is at OTRAMM 5 hours away. I will see if Jared can post up the existing bearing retainer.

you're welcome to have Ryan or Jared text me pics. They have my number …...
