Has anyone tried these? I don’t care for the look of most led lamps I’ve seen on 40s.

I have hella knockoffs (jc Whitney) been on for 25+ years ... they from what I could tell are actual Hellas but with a small bubble on each lens deeming them imperfect and sold to jcw

They are great headlights imho

Such a huge difference when I put them on compared to my old sealed beams

Check out the OEM kit still available from Toyota ( 81110-60P70 ) for approx. 50 bucks. Search the part # on here for lots of info.
x2 on the OEM kit. Light output is the same as the Hella. It will come with everything you need . Lights + harness + relays for a lot cheaper.... And what makes that deal even better is that they are by Koito. The only thing is that these OEM lights are flat-faced compared to the round-eye style that originally came with the land cruiser (if that matters to you). Easy plug and play. You won't have to modify your original harness to get these to work.

I did this on my 1971 fj40 with dome style headlight buckets. Huge upgrade compared to the original sealed beamed style headlight.

I connected the relay as suggested. The driver side is very dim and hi-beam doesn’t work. It's a new bulb, same as other side. It's the side furthest from the battery and ground. The passenger side is bright and hi-beam works fine. I’ve tried swapping the bulbs side for side, but the problem remains. Can anyone help with this?

Do you have a good clean connection at the drivers side? Did you check the voltage at the plug?

Having just installed mine yesterday the only thing I can see you might have missed....did you grease the terminal going into the old harness?
Did you use the battery for + and -?

for a weak bulb I still think you should back the blue off and stick a grounded wire on the bulb and see if that helps.

Tech on the Toyota Koito upgrade here

Fantastic.

Toyota part houses are probably scratching their heads right now over all the headlights being ordered.

They aren’t. This is simple supply-demand part procurement and logistics. Our community is not even a blip on a daily import part procurement order from TMS, USA to Japan.

You have to think in the aggregate.

Oh I know. These lights just seem to be a hot topic lately.

FYI....I’ll post this both places being discussed. If you have closed light housings and the dopey wire bar on the fender, the plug and play kit is not plug and play. You will have to drill a big hole in your housings or put the relays upstream of all your factory stuff.
