hey all. I have a problem I can't seem to figure out the issue.

My 100 seems to heat up to extreme temps. Then I hear a weird gurgle/crackle sound then it immediately cools off again.

Mean while it doesn't blow warm air when over hot. And then blows fine after the crackle sound.

Nice idea what it is... heater core? Valve somewhere?

Any advice/help would be much appreciated.

(I've scoured the search function... can't seem to bring up anything like this for 100)

The symptoms you describe is air in the system. When the truck is cold, remove the radiator cap and start the truck. Turn your heater on high and let the truck idle and come up to temperature. The air pocket will eventually work its way to the radiator and will burp out. The coolant level will drop some. Top off radiator and close it up. You may need to check it after a drive or two to make sure your coolant level is good.

You need to add coolant, unless you worked on the cooling system recently and didn't properly bleed the system of air you have a leak and are low on coolant.
Air cannot conduct heat, thats why you have no heat until the coolant starts to circulate.

Go buy a gallon of coolant from the store, buy the 50/50 premixed, I use Prestone Universal.
Then top off the overflow bottle on the truck. Keep this bottle full checking the level twice a day until you find your leak and get it fixed.

Thanks all. Really appreciate it! I think it's fixed! Y'all are awesome. Now to figure out why it was that low in the first place... gonna check/replace the heater T as the oils not milky and no smoking. So must be a leak in a hose/line somewhere
