EDITED! 4/15

Well, it's about time to put together a piggy!

My HAMOM will be April 18th at my house in Norcross. There will be food, the Green Egg will be fired up, and the beer will be cold. Also, the folks at ACC will be stopping by with a demonstration on how to use our bender. Very cool!!! I talked with Michael this weekend and we'll be bending slider for the pig. I'll be buying the steel and then commissioning the rest of the work at ACC at a later date.

Hope to see y'all there! Please post up if you are coming. We'll get started bright and early on Saturday with the hopes that she'll be road ready before the end of the day.

EDIT: I've started the list

1) Suspension - I have new Alcans with a 4-inch lift to install. I think I have all the parts and pieces (I hope). Let me know if you see something missing.
  • springs
  • bushings
  • shackles
  • shackle pins
  • extended brake lines
  • new shocks
  • U-bolts
  • shims if we need them

2) Hubs - I want to replace the blingy ones that are on there. I got a set of wicked cool LOCK-O-MATIC warn hubs from ACC for the pig. Can't wait to get them on!

3) Wheels and tires - 33" BFG MTs are mounted and ready to go. Also have stock hub caps.

4) Reinstall and fix heaters - The rear heater should be rebuild and ready to go. The front heater motor is burned out and needs to be replaced. I have a used on to try. EDIT: This might be done before the HAMOM, depends on time for Peter Merriam. I decided to ask him to get the truck running for me so we could focus on the lift and the rear tailgate rebuild.

5) Rear tailgate - need to get it back on and back together. I'll make sure that the "cat's whiskers" (felt) is installed and that I have adhesive for the weather stripping.[COLOR/]

6) Lights - all cleaned up and ready to reinstall. EDIT: This is done! I've been going over to the shop whenever I have a spare moment and reinstalling the lights!

7) Install random parts and pieces that the body shop left off. Mostly just screws and whatnot that they chucked into a bucket. Shouldn't be a big deal...things like fender bolts, etc.

8) Install stock bumpers. They aren't painted yet, but I'd like to get them on for now because the ones that are on there lood ridiculous. I have all the bolt and what not, so this shouldn't be a big deal.

I am going to have Peter Merriam get the fuel system together and the truck running so we can focus on getting the rest of her back together. EDIT: He has the truck as of today and it will be running to drive it home later this week!

OK folks, the planning has started. So far we have these folks attending:

Heather
Rick and Cat
Dan and his boys
John
Marshall
Juice (when he isn't at a wedding) and Ali (?)
Larry (might stop by)
ACC (Michael and Justin)

MORE INFO FOR THOSE THAT ARE COMING:

I'll be at the house all day...so feel free to show up when you can. Most folks won't get there really early, but I'll be there getting set up and ready so if you are an early riser, come on down.

We'll have food throughout the day. Taylor is cooking a chicken, maybe a brisket, maybe ribs...

We have an extra bedroom and an air mattress, so for you out of towners, if you want to stay, let me know.

IMPORTANT THING TO NOTE: This Saturday there is a Music Festival in Downtown Norcross. What that means is that to get to my house, you'll need to come in the back way. From 85, exit at Jimmy Carter and go west (from the North that would be right). Go straight on Jimmy Carter until you cross under the RR tracks, then over another set of RR tracks. There will be a road on your called Atlantic, go right there. Go to the light at Holcomb Bridge Road and go right. Go up the hill, and make a left on Barton Street. Then a left onto Sunset. We are down the hill on the left. 421 Sunset.

Heather,
That will be a scheduling challenge (Sport has soccer and Carolyn has a b-day), but I certainly be watching the details to see if there will be an opportunity.

Good luck and I have confidence that you will host a great work day.

Hope to make it, have 4 big jack stands and floor jack if needed.

I will be there with the boys, let me know if you need anything from the garage.

I just replaced a set of springs on an '88 62. a torch was a good thing. The spring eye bolts were seized in the bushings and would'nt come out. I just cut them off. The kit had new one's anyway.
Good luck.
On another note, when I replaced the springs on Scotts 40, the bolts knocked right out and I re-used them. go figure.

Heather,
What time were you planning on starting? Melissa's soccer game starts at 1 and is an away game, plus Carolyn will probably be looking (& deserving) for b-day specials, so the afternoon and evening are booked.

Thanks

OK, just took my lunch hour (OK 2 hours) to go home and round up all the assorted parts and crap that I need to get the pig running. My goal is to drive her home from the upholstery shop on the 16th or 17th.

The fuel system should be all done for sure. Not sure if the heaters will be installed yet. If not, that's another task for Saturday. I'll edit the first post as things shape up.

BUMP!!!!

The truck will be running and ready to go sometime in the next 2 days! Please let me know if you are coming...I'll update the first post.

Oh, and my husband has agreed to do some ribs for us on the green egg for dinner. YUM!

Heather, Linda's B'day is that Saturday (glad I remembered) so I'm pretty sure I'll be busy that day unfortunately... sorry!

Lock-O-Maticks are very cool and very retro. Love the knives used to switch them in and out.

Is the tailgate all together and just needs to be mounted or is it completely apart including the weatherstripping? If so you have the adhesive for the WS and the little clips for the felt wiper?

Spring that are currently on it are they stock. How long have they been on the vehicle. The bushing shackles can be a pain to get off if they are old and seized. Just want to know it I should bring the cutting torch or not.

Do you have all the screws and what nots together labeled as to where they go?

Any special tools you need? Do you have a nice size compressor for air tools?

Most likely I will be coming early and leaving around 6 or so. Planning on driving the 40 down. As it looks like it's going to be a nice day.

Yeah, I think they will be perfect for the piggy. Very cool mechanism. I know that sounds really geeky, but I love the way things work.

Completely apart. I am going to have the "cats whiskers" (felt) riveted in by the upholsterers on Friday. I'll also get some adhesive from them so we can do the weather stripping.

Not OEM, but I don't know how long they have been on. I'd say if you can bring the torch, please do. I'll say this, they are NOT rusty and yucky looking. The PM maintained this truck very well.

Do you have all the screws and what nots together labeled as to where they go?

Of course...with the exception of the screws that the painters took off an chucked in a bucket. We have a little sorting to do there, but for the most part all the parts that need to be on the truck are on already, they just need more screws. I also have more screws I ordered for replacements.

My goal is to have 2 folding tables set up and all the parts laid out and labeled for installation. I've really tried to be as organized as I can with this, and I am not planning on stopping that now.

I also think that you'll be pleasantly surprised at how much is done already.

Any special tools you need? Do you have a nice size compressor for air tools?

I do not have a compressor, but I do have a powertank that I can have filled up. Also, I can ask Dan to bring his CO2 tank too. If someone has a compressor they can bring, I'd appreciate it.

The other thing that we're going to have to do is fix the installation of the door handle parts and pieces. The upholsterers had a run at that and didn't exactly get it right. So we've got some reconfiguring to do.
